Outdoor Camera and Smart Alarm Camera Firmware 1.20 (December 2023)

Here’s what’s coming to your Cameras in Version 1.20:

Firmware updates for the Wireless Outdoor Camera and the Smart Alarm Camera are sent to your devices automatically, and there’s no need to take action on your end. The rollout happens over time, so if you don’t have this update on your device yet, you should see it soon.

I did not revert my camera to 1.18 using the reset method mentioned above.  I experienced ALL of the problems in December that were reported on this thread.  My non-responsive camera problem started on Dec 20th.  I got the message saying an update was available a couple days ago, like Dec 28th.  That was the update I was referring to that "so far" appeared to fix all of the problems.

I don't know what the firmware version that I'm using.  How can I check it?  All I know is that the cameras broke on 12/20 and appear to be fixed on Friday 12/29 after doing an updare.  I have 3 messages saying that the firmware was updated on the 29th.  If you tell me how to check the version I will check & report back.

On an unrelated or semi-related topic, I wonder if SS would be held liable if there was a break-in and someone was injured or killed because the system that was functioning had been damaged due to an update?  They would probably try to claim user error, but with so much discussion on this topic, it might be a tough sell.

My outdoor camera is v1.20.27.6769.  Both Indoor cameras are v1.16.8.777.  All 3 working since Friday.  The AC cameras never had a problem through this fiasco.  Good Luck.

Just chiming in to say my front camera that I had inadvertently rolled back to 1.18 is still doing good. Regularly charging per normal as before. The back camera that I'm keeping at 1.20 for comparison observation I notice drains a lot faster, but it wasn't supper bugged like the front camera where charging was disabled. It charges but sometimes doesn't charge till it dips to the 80s percentage. This back camera hardly gets any motion activity at all. Before the update, the back camera always maintained 100%.

Another thing I noticed is within the app, neither cameras ever charge to 100% or keep at 100% anymore. I'll see 96-97% at most. But I'm leery of how much to trust the app after the 12/20/23 app update (Android). The percentage displays of each outdoor camera battery doesn't update upon opening the app. I'd have to either pull down to refresh multiple times or go into a setting and go back and forth till they change. Very strange.

I also haven't seen any key pad updates or notifications to update via key pad at all per what chuckgrasser experienced. Maybe his was a forced roll out for those whose cameras were completely bricked ("non-responsive") after the 1.20 roll out?

Is there any update on 1.20? Has the rollout been paused?

Thanks for the update and sorry for the trouble you're having. I have 3 AC and 1 solar. Hopefully that issue is resolved soon.

Just another data point for those keeping score - I have 4 outdoor cameras on AC power and none of them have budged from the original 1.18 firmware.  I'd like to have 1.20 and the new features, but it doesn't sound like that's going to happen any time soon.

@Tomba I have two outdoor cameras with the 1.20 firmware update and both are working perfectly.  Performance mode and pre-roll work as designed and live streaming is in 2 seconds flat and with pre-roll for recordings are much better in capturing events.

Suggest you call support and request at 1.20 be pushed to your system.  If you do call please post hear your outcome if you get a chance.

@captain11 I called support a few days ago asking for them to push 1.20, but they said they couldn’t. I don’t know if the rollout is on hold since there are some apparent issues with it, or if it is just taking a while.

@j_simplisafe_user Interesting, but it apperas if your cameras are on AC, it works as advertised, if on battery or solar panel there are issues.  I did initiate a separate post that my only "needs improvement" comment was to make sure it said "Performance Mode" when it was in effect, than the standard "waking up". With perofrmance mode and preroll, its good to go.

@Tomba and @j_simplisafe_user Camera firmware updates are slowly rolled out across our entire user base, and unfortunately our Support team cannot push them out. Updates are still rolling out, and you should see it on your cameras soon.

However, you can try to force an update by temporarily moving the Outdoor Camera near your Wi-Fi router and Base Station. Then, reset the camera following the steps listed out in this Help Center article. That can help to trigger an update.

And magically my cameras updated on their own this morning (of course).  No issues, and they're all working as advertised.

I just noticed after checking in the app that my front camera has succumbed to the update again and is back to the battery drain. The version number is showing something slightly different: 1.20.32.7392

The back camera is still on 1.20.27.6769

I understand camera updates being pushed out over time but I don't understand when you have two outdoor cameras that one will update and still weeks later the other has not??
It should be pushed to your base ID and all cameras updated.
I have done the (remove, reset, etc) 2x with nothing happening.
SS really needs to come up with a better way to push updates and or let us force an update.

All of these versions are garbage then. Cause my front camera having had auto updated to a different 1.20.32 version has not been charging since! It's now down to 85% I'm back to having to prepare myself to reset it again. The app will pretend to show the charging icon on these cameras yet no charging happens. So the app is definitely misleading as well. And @dlpsr  I'm wondering if your under deck camera has a specific 1.18 version that previously had that particular bug with the false alerts?

And just FYI @eamail2001 , when they announced they were rolling out the 1.18 version in September 2023, many of us were still not getting that push for a long time when we were still on version 1.16. I didn't see 1.18 updated on my cameras until TWO MONTHS later in November.

I feel like Simplisafe doesn't bother to properly test their versions out before release, but pushes it out haphazardly to whichever customer it can reach in the country and then use them as guinea pigs. Then secretly halt the version push until they fix the bugs for however long it takes. It's a really poor system.

That's crazy how drastically inaccurate your charge readings jump around. My front camera is still not charging after it got forced the 1.20 again.

I'm so sick of babysitting this update. This winter here has been constantly rainy plus the cold so I can't just keep pulling out the heavy ladder and taking out my battery to charge repeatedly. I just want my cameras to automatically roll back to 1.18 where it was before this mess.

The 1.20 performance mode never even improved live view speed to begin with. All it did was stop my cameras from being charged despite fully functioning solar panels and cables.

Well sometime this weekend one of my outdoor cameras reverted back to v1.18
I was waiting for the other one to updated to v1.20
?????

What is going on SS???!!!!????

My cameras also reverted back to 1.18., an email from SS letting users know what was happening would have been nice. Now all we need is SS to explain what they are doing to fix all the issues seen with 1.20

@dipser Just to confirm, my two AC-connected outdoor cameras are now 1.18, even though in my instance they worked great on 1.20.

SS: when you do roll out the 1.20 again make sure to correct the verbiage and add "Performance Mode" when it is active.

There is ver 1.2.46.x and 1.2.37.x.

I have 3 cameras 1 on 1.2.46 and 2 on 1.2.37.

46.x seems more stable than 37.x  as the two on 37 drop off network once a week.

All 3 outdoor on solar pad connections.

I'm been chatting with SS tech now for an hour and they keep giving me runaround everything is up to date but plainly there is a different software version higher.  I asked for an escalation.  And my base is up to date..

It's crazy that we can't manually check and update the cameras like we can the base.

My cameras are all up to date. Yesterday I got a 4.00AM Amazon delivery. The driver was able to get out the truck, walk up the drive, drop off package at front door, and my garage camera only caught him as he was halfway down the drive on the way back to his truck. The door camera did not register him at all!!!! My battery was at 96%, where is the "Performance Mode" function?

@miketjthomas Is your Outdoor Camera plugged into either the Outdoor Camera Power Cable or Solar Panel? The Outdoor Camera needs to be plugged into a power source, and have a battery with at least a 90% charge, for Performance Mode to kick in.

@emily_s He like others have said even the door camera didn't catch the driver which is serious. A it's the front door.  B the door camera IS always on constant power since it's att attached to the home bell system and circuits breaker.

Half the time mine won't pick up someone coming to it but it will always pick up a truck on road 100 ft away moving across the cameras horizon as soon as the truck comes into frame.

All my outdoor model cameras are now on 1.2.46.x

Took about a 5days for all to updates to take and me keeping the ticket open and not letting them close.

@emily_s Yes, all my outdoor cameras are hooked up to solar, and the doorbell only works with a power source.

@jt7633a2 keep in mind that the Video Doorbell Pro is a totally different model from the Outdoor Camera, and does not have the same firmware.

But all cameras connect to WiFi, and are susceptible to similar connectivity issues. We suggest going back to the troubleshooting to help narrow down the issue for your system. And of course our Support team is happy to help as well!
