Apple watch app not working

For weeks now, my Apple watch app has been working fine for arming and disarming my new Gen 3 system, now it stopped working. I get the message "Current location does not have a security system installed". Well, there is one, I can even see it right now, and the Iphone and the web app connect just fine. Any ideas why this suddenly stopped working?

Hi drjoe66,

Clearly the app on your watch isn't recognizing the correct info for your account. Have you already tried uninstalling and reinstalling on your Apple Watch? That should clear out any incorrect data saved on the device.

I didn't do anything, but it started working again after a few days. Now it stopped working again. The app was updated yesterday. Now the refresh on the watch doesn't even work. The app works and Is open on the iPhone. Restarted, deleted, reinstalled everything. Still not working. This was never an issue when we had the previous SimpliSafe system and started when we upgraded to the ver 3 system.

I am having this same problem with my new Apple Watch SE. The watch app works as long as the iPhone app is open. When I close the iPhone app and hit refresh on the watch, the app gets stuck in refresh mode. Is there a solution to this problem?

Any updates on this? My watch app also never stops Refreshing. If I first have to open the app on my phone, the watch app is useless.
BTW, a widget also would be nice. Like on Android phones…

I am having the same problem, it has 3 blue dots moving in a square shape reading refreshing.  How does this get fixed?

Hi all,

Just to update you on the current status of this issue. Our development team is currently still INVESTIGATING, but we've identified the cause related to how the app functions. We're working on resolution, and we'll keep you updated when we have more info.

While using the SimpliSafe mobil App on my Apple Watch Ultra:
My Apple Cellular Watch Ultra appears to be dependent on my Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max, causing me to occasionally open my phone Simplisafe App to refresh the App on my watch.   This prevents me from leaving my phone at the house, making my watch unusable for the App.  I can't even use the Watch App while in the backyard if I need to occasionally refresh my phone.  Once refreshed the watch is no longer dependent on the phone for a various period of time, works great.
I just spent several minutes with Apple Care and SimpliSafe technical support.  We unpaired the watch from the phone, removed the App from both, and reinstalled the Apps on both, no luck.  If I understood the SimpliSafe tech correctly he believes the watch is dependent on the phone, causing the problems I mentioned above.   If in fact this is true I beg for a fix to be made, allowing the watch to access the SimpliSafe App independently.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Craig

Same iwatch issue of non-functional ongoing three dot refresh  making Simplisafe no longer convenient for entering with packages.   Setting down bags to dig out cell phone is risky in Chicago.    Please fix this potentially dangerous problem.

@craigharryman  I have the same issue.  Watch opens and "pretends" to let me disarm, but never responds and I do not get notifications.  Walk up to the door and it is still locked (unlocking is part of the disarm).  Open the app on my phone and magically I get a notification that my system is "disarmed by remote" and it unlocks. Something is not right in the interaction between watch and phone.

Same issue here. Endless refreshing with no functionality. Deleting the Watch app and reinstalling works for a while, then it's back to endless refreshing.

How can it take 2 years to fix this?

Hi @gthomas000 ,

SimpliSafe on Apple Watch is a companion app, which means that it's a remote control for the SimpliSafe app on your phone, and needs the phone app to be active to function. So if you've recently rebooted your phone, force-close the app on your phone, etc., you may just need to launch the SimpliSafe app again and make sure that you're logged in. Unfortunately, the companion app is also not able to function if your phone is not within bluetooth range.

You can read more about Apple Watch functionality on our Help Center here.

That is certainly NOT the issue here.  On a given day, with the app never closed, the watch will only work about 60% of the time.  The watch never gives me an indication that it is not going to work.  It opens, updates for current state, allows me to select disarm and then falls back to the app selection screen native to the watchOS.  After hearing no notification, I try again and get the same results.

When I get to the doorstep my door is still locked (set to unlock when disarmed), I pull out my phone and open the Simplsafe app -  It's logged in and has not been "force closed" - I do not select anything and all of a sudden:  a notification that the system has disarmed by remote and the door unlocks.

@jwmeyer35076 your symptoms do confirm a little bit how the companion app on your Apple Watch works, because it needed to have the app on the smartphone side to be launched before the command would work.

iOS uses smart memory management, where it keeps more recently or more often used apps active, while suspending those that aren't. So I think what happened is that it had been a long enough while since you last used the SimpliSafe app on your phone that it had gone dormant.

This is definitely something we'll report to our dev team.
