Multi-User Accounts

Is there any way to have multiple log-ins to the same account? If not, is there a way to send suggestions to SimpliSafe engineers?

Unable to add users to my account

Hi @slhart22 ,

Right now, SimpliSafe is designed as a single-account experience. So unfortunately you aren't able to add another user to access your system.

But you can log into your account on multiple devices with the same login info; so if you have multiple family members you'd like to access your account, they can log into the account using the same username and password.

Here's more info on our Help Center.

@davey_d Is this going to change? This doesn't really work for a business where multiple people need to monitor the system. Sharing single account login info is asking for trouble. Also makes device verification for everyone when they get logged out of the system for any reason VERY hard.

@joe_ff56f3 The ability for multi-user accounts is in development, but right now we do not have a timeline on when this feature will be live. Once we hear more from our dev team, we will provide an update in this thread.

@emily_s

Sorry but I have to call BS on that. This feature has been requested and that same lame answer has been given for 5 years now. If it was really being worked on it would have been deployed already. This is the one area where I find Simplisafe seriously lacking, and I am exploring other systems due to the lack of this very feature.

I agree.  This needs to be prioritized!

This is long overdue, guys...

Like it's been previously stated- you guys have a great product. There are many reasons why you don't want to give others access to your master account!

It would be great to specify what a user can and cannot do as well.

Any updates on this development? It’s been a year since you said the tech team has been working on this, it certainly is not ground breaking tech to allow multiple users to register to the same account. With MFA this is extra frustrating and difficult now. Please provide some additional info to reassure your customers that this is being prioritized.

Just to keep this message thread active...

I am a new SimpliSafe customer and a retired IT manager/developer who has been in the industry for over 50 years. I can't imagine that SimpliSafe has not developed a multi-user based system with a variety of user levels that would allow a family or business to designate numerous users access to an alarm system based on individual user needs. For example, an ADMINISTRATOR would have full access and capability to add/delete/disable alarm devices whereas a STANDARD user would only be able to enable/disable an alarm system but not be able to add/delete devices. There may be other scenarios so some kind of a user matrix would be needed where the ADMINISTRATOR would have the capability (privileges) to add/delete user accounts and assign them to a specific alarm system and devices.

I have read through most of the posts in this thread and am disappointed that SimpliSafe keeps saying such a multi-user functionality is in the works and yet other SimpliSafe Community Admins mention "If and when...". Such replies, are not very convincing to your user community that Multi-User controls are, in fact, being considered or even being developed. You have a great product offering but it is sadly lacking any kind of multi-user controls. A realistic timeline/progress report for such an enhancement would remove all concern your customers currently are expressing in this community forum.

PLEASE make this a priority development effort that would make a great system even greater.

If I had known about this limitation prior to buying I would not have purchased and selected one of your main competitors (which I have previous experience of).

Is this still in active development?

@chris_8a00fa This feature is in active development. Once we get any update from our dev team, we will let everyone in this thread know.

@davey_d - it’s been 5 years. How long does reviewing this for conflicts with existing features take? Has SimpliSafe at least been testing in beta? Over a year since last update means the engineering team has mothballed this project.

I seriously doubt that it's being developed. I've given up on this ever seeing the light of day. Sorely disappointed with SS software.

my spouse and i both like using the app.  it needs to have separate login for each of us.  she can use my info but then the 2nd factor goes to my text and is not helpful if i am not available.  i think this is a major shortcoming.

@benlclark The request for multi-user accounts has been submitted before, so I've merged your post into this original thread. This feature is currently in development, and when we get any updates from our devs we will be sure to let the Community know.

In the meantime, I would enable Multi-Factor Authentication on your account. By doing this, you can register your spouse's phone number on your account. Then, the next time she uses your login credentials to access the account, a code will go to her phone instead of yours. You can learn more about Multi-Factor Authentication and how to enable it in this Help Center article.

simplisafe get with the times… we need to have multiple user logins to access the same account… this is ridiculous this is not an option

One of the reasons for using electronic locks is so you don't give your key out. You give them their code, when the time comes, you turn their code off.

With Simplisafe, I have to give the dog walker my personal password. They can then do whatever they want to my security.

My preference is that I could give them an account that only allows them access at certain times of day.

@Steve36184 Do you have any Custom PINs setup on your account? With a Custom PIN, you can arm/disarm the SimpliSafe system and unlock your Smart Lock, but you cannot make any system changes with it. Custom PINs were designed to be given to people like friends and family, and you can have up to 4 different Custom PINs on your account.

You can learn more about Custom PINs and how to create and delete them in this article in our Help Center.

This is unacceptable. If I'm traveling and my wife needs to login, the 2FA comes to me and not her.

So of course I've removed 2FA and biometrics which is not secure. To add insult to injury she must enter a thousand character recovery code. Have any of your engineers actually done that? Because it's no fun.

Just stop with the 5 years of excuses and get this done. Sharing usernames and passwords is so 80s.

@cpopolo we hear you. This is definitely something that our dev team is working on. We will update you when we have news.

In the meantime, I'm not sure if you knew, but you can actually set up Multi-Factor Authentication for multiple phone numbers - so both you and your wife can get the confirmation code to your own devices. Learn more about the feature here.

And please give us real MFA. Spoofing a phone number to receive a text is not terribly difficult for bad actors with the right knowledge and equipment. Implement an app based option like Google or Microsoft Authenticator that uses time based one-time passcodes and doesn't require cell service.

This is definitely needed!

@davey_d Yeah, in a real perversion of MFA, my wife was able to setup face recognition on her iPad to get a confirmation code.  So now I fully expect that her face is somewhere tied to my email address and it's only a matter of time before that makes its way into the Internet with unintended consequences, like emails to me for women's products that I don't need.

I'm not exactly sure what she did because I was traveling in the EU when she needed the code, and I was fast asleep in a different time zone.

I'm giving up on SimpliSafe.  5 years or more to implement MFA simply tells me you don't know how to do it.

Please, no reply.  It's just aggravating every time I hear how seriously you take all of this.

I just ordered a new system for a new home, but have another home with it. I was mistakenly under the impression that I could give my family access to the security system of the home we live in by adding separate accounts, and to my shock, not even basic separate accounts are available. It's even more shocking that years later this hasn't been addressed.

This hasn't been thought out at all. Giving someone your main password that gives access to all settings isn't just incredibly insecure, it doesn't solve all the issues. I have multiple locations and I frequently log into the app and it decides to switch locations back to the first system I had somewhat randomly. If I gave others access to it I'm sure they would accidentally disarm the other system because the only indication of what system dashboard you're in is a small text label.

I run a small software engineering team so I totally understand the challenges of keeping up with demands, but this is a security system that was built on the concept of being able to manage it yourself. Not addressing this for years reeks of deeply rooted design flaw(s) and/or deaf leadership. I have to rethink whether Simplisafe is the right solution for me and my family.

I believe it is vital that SimpliSafe establish some sort of option for a guest account login to the app. In my opinion it is a HUGE flaw that once we allow someone to access the account (even for one day) they can access all settings including billing or even the safe word. This topic has been raised by many people, but I believe what’s missing is how this is a MAJOR SECURITY FLAW. Whether it’s a neighbor watching in, various family members, or even babysitters/pet sitters. For them to access the cameras, or remote app control, I have to give them the keys to the kingdom so to speak. The SimpliSafe company needs to address this security issue ASAP, this big flaw makes me consider switching security providers.

-Thank you.

Hi @tyusjoseph777,

Your request sounded similar to this preexisting thread, so I've merged your post here. I certainly hear you about this, and multi-user accounts with different permissions is currently in development. When we get an update from our devs on this feature, we will notify this thread.

@emily_s Its been in development for how long now?

@emily_s - please advise why it’s been 4-5 years and nothing? This isn’t some act of God type change, so it’s time to prioritize this item. Prices have gone up but even simplistic features like this, which are available with nearly every single competitor of SS’, still haven’t been implemented.

This has been in development for over 5 years. You can only use the video doorbell with one account sign in which is MORONIC.

Please please soprt this out simplisafe. Only just discovered this and if I knew this when I was purchasing I certainly wouldn't. Really poor.

It should be pretty clear to all customers by now that the way the system is today, and has been for the last several years, is how it is going to be moving forward.

This is obviously not in 'active development'  at all and the community team should show some transparency as you can't say this same line on a 4 year old thread and still expect customers to believe you.

An important feature like this in development for five years...do they only have one developer?

I agree.  I think that if they just come out and say that it'll never happen, alot of people will run to systems that DO have this functionality.
