Biometric Authentication at Login

I've brought this up before and didn't get a response.  Yesterday I left the house and was gone for the day.  A few hours went by when I realized that I hadn't set the alarm to Away when I left.  So, I opened the app to do it and since it had been 30 days since I had logged on, I had been logged off automatically.  So, now that I'm out of town and have a 17 character password for my account, I have no way to re-logon to the app since I'm away from my home computer.   Why isn't the app compatible with the iPhone Face ID option?????  All my banking and credit card apps work that way.  Not knowing when you're logged off the app by the dumb 30 day rule is annoying and unnecessary.  I hope Simplisafe improves the app's functionality by allowing Face ID sooner rather than later.

Hi all,

This feature has been IMPLEMENTED, and is available now on both Android and iOS. You'll of course want to make sure you have the latest version of the SimpliSafe app for your device, then head over to the Help Center for a step-by-step on how to enable.

@davey_d  does not work.

Hi @mattfuoco,

Are you unable to turn on Biometric Authentication, or have you enabled it and it's giving you a problem when you try to use it? If it's enabled on an iOS device and you run into an issue when you try to use it, we do list out troubleshooting steps to take in this Help Center article.

I'd love it if the SimpliSafe iOS app checked FaceID before letting me arm/disarm/manage my alarm. Technically the phone locks with FaceID already, but it feels more secure for sensitive apps to require a second auth. Many other secure apps like bank apps, password managers, etc. do this.

Hi @getadam,

While we do currently offer the option to secure the SimpliSafe app with a PIN using the App Lock feature, we have forwarded your request to have a Biometric App Lock to our dev team. In the meantime, if you'd like to set up the App Lock PIN, you can do so by following these steps:

  1. Open the SimpliSafe app and log in to your account
  2. Press the ‚ò∞ Menu button in the upper left-hand corner
  3. Tap on your email address
  4. Select Configure App Lock
  5. Enter the PIN that you'd like to use twice to enable App Lock

My iOS app DOES use FaceID to unlock the Simplisafe app.

When I select Configure App Lock, I select a PIN and then the app asks me if I want to use FaceID. I say yes, and then it will do a face scan and unlock the app, bypassing  the PIN entry screen...

Hi all,

Thank you for correcting us @danieljustice! Yes, this feature is already included, and as danieljustice mentioned, you will be prompted to set up your FaceID or TouchID to unlock the SimpliSafe app after choosing your PIN.

I need to get into my account by my iPhone face because what ever I do I cannot get the password to work. I have changed it several times.

@zuess1958 Biometric Login, which includes FaceID, is already an option for logging into your SimpliSafe account. Head over here to learn how to enable it.

Hi zzebra, not sure I understand. Are you saying that you're not able to log in because you're not able to remember your password?

@davey_d  Yes, all my passwords are 15-20 characters and I have a password manager in my computer.  But that is besides the point.  Why don't I have the option of Face ID, and deciding how long my password is good for, like with by banking apps?

We do have FaceID available as an option for App Lock (under Manage Account > App Lock).

But you'll still have to log in again after a month, using username and password. This is a deliberate design, for security reasons. The actual login application (which is the same across all platforms, including the webapp) doesn't yet support AppleID. But I've already forwarded your suggestion to our dev team.

I don't have an iOS device but my understanding is that if you have enabled biometric functionality, which is not on by default in the SimpliSafe app or many other apps, you can use biometrics to unlock. I assume it's disabled by default (and rightly so) for security reasons since if someone got your phone and your hand, by force or because you were unconscious, they could just unlock your device, unlock SimpliSafe, disable alarm, etc.

Can someone with an iOS device confirm this? All I have to go on are reviews which say it's possible but I can't confirm. Also can someone with an iOS device confirm the steps to get to the section in the app under settings (I think it's under account?) to enable this?

@worthing Yes you can use Face ID to unlock app and is disabled by default (I don’t have my old iPhone that had home button/fingerprint unlock anymore, I assume that would work too).

Tap three line icon (top left) > tap manage account > tap Configure App Lock > create app lock pin > enter pin again to verify > app will ask you if you want to use biometric unlock.
