Base Station Wifi troubles

Hey guys, just got my system the other day and I'm in the process of setting it up.

So far I've actually set everything up successfully EXCEPT I can't get my base station to connect to wifi. It won't pick up my wifi network despite having a 2ghz band and a 5ghz band. It's only about a room over, and my simpli safe camera is sitting right next to the base station and detects the wifi fine and works perfect. My base station IS picking up a wifi name that isn't mine though, which is weird considering if it's a neighbors it's picking up wifi that's farther away.

I was just hoping someone could suggest something. I'd like to have it on wifi rather than just relying on the cell signal. I could move the base station to the room with the router and try connecting, but that room is towards the back of the house and I'm afraid it might not hold the signal with any of the devices towards the front of the house. The spot it's in right now is the middle of the house, and like I said the camera next to it isn't having any wifi problems.

Any help is appreciated!

@General_KAOS

One of the updates allows the Base Station to connect to networks with an SSID of up to 32 characters!

@Lee - I understand SSID name length change.  I am asking about wifi password length.  I had a SSID with a 63 character password and kept losing connectivity.  My testing before the firmware update resulted in a limit of 15 or 18 character length for a wifi password.  Can't remember and can't search.  If I had a password with letters, number, and characters (available on the SS3 keypad) longer than 15/18 characters, when I bounced by access point, the SS3 system would lose the configuration data and I would have to reenter the wifi password.  I did have one test case where I used 0 to 9 sequentially/repeated to 25 character length and it didn't get lost when I cycled the access point.  I haven't tested again after the firmware update.  I have something to look forward to this weekend!

I have SS2 and would like to update to SS3 gradually. Can I have multiple base stations (SS2 and SS3) at the same time in 1 acct. My Plan is for any additional sensors that I will purchase I will link it to SS3. For this to work do I need two monthly monitoring charge? Thanks.

Yes, each base which has a monitoring plan will require a separate plan.  If you have two bases, you will need to pay two monitoring charges.

Just getting set up.  What does red light on base unit mean?

@ehscarborough

That just means that there has been a recent alarm (perhaps because you've been testing it?). While in the default screen, press the right of your Keypad to view the Notifications, and press the right again to clear.

Stumbled on this as I'm having a problem connecting to my wifi network.  Just got my system yesterday and set up all the sensors with no problem.  I have other devices on my wifi network- cell phone, laptop, Amazon Echo and an Arlo Netgear base station.  For some reason, the only network that the base station finds is a Netgear which apparently is sending out an SSID for the Arlo cameras.   I tried entering my CenturyLink SSID info manually, but it won't take it.  I also can't connect via cellular as they sent me the wrong base station.  SS is sending a new one which will connect to the Verizon network so I'm guessing I'll have to set everything up again anyway. A little frustrating, but I'm in "try it" mode for 72 hrs anyway.

Hi donnavee,

Thanks for checking in. From your account info, I see that you might have already called in again to get the issue resolved. Were you able to figure out why the Base Station couldn't find your CenturyLink SSID?
From what you've mentioned, the SSID may have been hidden, or may have been broadcasting only in the 5GHz band (SimpliSafe can support only the 2.4GHz band).

Let us know if you need more help!

Quick notes from a brand new install:

SSID length still is an issue, at least for showing the SSID in the keypad's wifi menu. My main SSID (17 chars) shows up in the list, but my IoT SSID (19 chars) does not show up. I can select "OTHER" and type the SSID in manually and the system joins fine.

Password length is still an issue. The system will not accept passwords greater than 31 characters--like, the 32nd character cannot be entered. I have shortened my IoT SSID password to fit, but that's a disappointing limitation.

Other than those two annoyances, I had no issues getting the system joined to my unifi-based WLAN.

edited to add - the SSID is not hidden and simplisafe is the only device on the WLAN that behaves this way.

I spent 5hours on the phone yesterday 11/17 with SS rep.....

In brief...... we change password, call cable company make sure there no MAC address block, firmware blocks etc, they reset modium, I change out SS  keypad and base station with replacements they sent, numbest reset on your keypad and base.

all our iPads, laptops, iPhones, door lock, nest thermostat , and including SS camera are on WiFi with no issues.

I did notice that the keypad show my WiFi name even with a full single strength in the list of WiFi's. But will not connect.
WiFi name 10 letters and password 9 letters

Also if I turn on my hotspot it connects to my iPhone, but if I go to system settings on your keypad then diagnostics, then WiFi even thou imy iPhone showing connection to the hot spot on my iPhone it said no WiFi connection in diagnostics ?

Great news everyone...
Problem solved.
First a big round of applause to Marquis, and Robert from SS, and Blake from Hargray Cable Co.
Aries router not compatible with simple safe base station.
Had to bridge a third party router like a netgear router.
Life is good, and secured!

Modem not compatible with SS3 base station

@samspano4 - Did you mean ARRIS? If so, please share what model # your old modem is. Also, please share what new model number the Netgear router is that solved the issue.

Wifi Issues Solve Follow up...

Sorry about spelling yes I did mean ARRIS the model #DG3450 that is supply by Hargray Cable Co. in South Carolina.

Netgear R7000 AC1900 Smart Wifi Router I had this older Netgear laying around for few years, but it did the trick.

*Note You will need to call your cable company to sync the bridge between devices to complete installation. Unless you know your way around in the advance setting on router web pages.

Neither SS or Hargray gave me the exact reason why there not compatible. After two and half days on phone with both companies and at one point all three of us where on a three way call I was just satisfied its was finally working and problem solved.
