Base Station Wifi troubles

Hey guys, just got my system the other day and I'm in the process of setting it up.

So far I've actually set everything up successfully EXCEPT I can't get my base station to connect to wifi. It won't pick up my wifi network despite having a 2ghz band and a 5ghz band. It's only about a room over, and my simpli safe camera is sitting right next to the base station and detects the wifi fine and works perfect. My base station IS picking up a wifi name that isn't mine though, which is weird considering if it's a neighbors it's picking up wifi that's farther away.

I was just hoping someone could suggest something. I'd like to have it on wifi rather than just relying on the cell signal. I could move the base station to the room with the router and try connecting, but that room is towards the back of the house and I'm afraid it might not hold the signal with any of the devices towards the front of the house. The spot it's in right now is the middle of the house, and like I said the camera next to it isn't having any wifi problems.

Any help is appreciated!

I get my new system today!!!  Has anyone "tested" the length of the Wi-Fi password?

Finally able to get some sensors installed for new SS3 system.  I did test the keypad for wi-fi password length and found the answer is 32 characters.  Now I am working on new network infrastructure to segregate my computers from the security system and might as well isolate my IoT devices while I am at it.

Updated per user input:  (great job guys!)

SSID Name -  no more than 13 characters.
Wifi Password -  up to 32 characters.

Now if only we could get Simplisafe to create SS3 topic forums and useful stickies and the search function to magically appear!

You have to log into your router to change it.  This will mean all your wifi devices will need to be changed also.  What kind of router do you have?  If you can give me the make and model I can find you some instructions.

Hello everyone!

Currently, the Keypad is limited to 13-character SSIDs. We're aware of this issue and are working on it!

In the meantime, if your SSID is longer than 13 characters, you can work around this by selecting "Other" when choosing a WiFi network. Here you will be able to enter the SSID and password manually.

Is there a fix for the fact that the manual install will not allow me to provide a name that is 20 characters long? I enter the full name manually and it won't do anything when I hit select 'Go'.

It will not allow me to manually enter my SSID. It does nothing when I select "go".  I have 21 characters and way too many devices currently hooked up to change it ...

I have the same problem with not being able to connect the system to a wifi that is greater than 20 characters. I cannot manually add the SSID.

If you don't already have a guest network setup, that might be an option of the security system.  A couple of folks reported success.  Based on a previous wifif router, my concern would be the guess account requiring a wifi password ever time you connect of timing out too often.  Might e worth a shot.

I am having a similar issue. I have a dual band wifi router with both 2.4GHz and 5GHz. My SS3 connects to the 5GHz band just fine (password length is 12 char and SSID is 6 char). Both bands have the same password but different SSIDs. However, it is unable to connect to the 2.4GHz and gives a "WiFi connection failed - make sure your internet is working" error message. I know that both bands are working because I have multiple devices connected to each band. I even called support and reset the base station by removing one of its rechargeable batteries from the bottom of the base station unit. I even restarted my router as well but it is still giving me the same error message. Does anyone have any suggestions?

EDIT - the base station detects both my 5GHz and 2GHz SSIDs when searching for wifi networks. I do not have to type in the SSIDs manually at all.

No offense intended, so apologize if I offend you.  Are you sure you don't have the names backwards for the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands?

@Johnny - are you able to tell us if the wifi password length limitation was addressed with the latest firmware update?
