Entry Sensor Announce available now!

We’re happy to announce that a popular feature request is rolling out to all users! Included in the Fast Protect™ Monitoring and Self Monitoring w/Camera Recordings plans,  Entry Sensor Announce enables your Base Station to verbally call out the sensor by name whenever it’s opened. e.g. “Front door Entry Sensor open” instead of the chime.

You can enable Entry Sensor Announce in the SimpliSafe® app:

  1. Tap the three-bar ☰ Menu on the top left
  2. Select My System
  3. Select Device Settings
  4. Select the Entry Sensor you would like to modify
  5. Under Entry Sensor Alert, select Sensor Name Voice Prompt

This is a per-sensor setting, so you’re able to choose which sensors produce a Voice Prompt, and which sensors produce just a chime. Also keep in mind that the announcement is only available for preset list of sensor names; if you use a custom name, the Base Station will revert to just “Entry Sensor open”.

For more info on setting up this feature, head over to our Help Center page here. And for info on how to rename your sensor to one of the supported names, head over here.

The feature is now available for both the iOS and Android versions of the SimpliSafe® app. Be sure to update to the latest version of the app on your phone!

Time after time I'm just amazed at this company.  This was INCORRECTLY announced weeks ago.  They finally admitted that it's NOT AVAILABLE for ANYONE.....

At the time of my posting this it says the article was edited and updated 55 minutes ago.....

yet it still says:

The feature is available already on iOS as of this posting

WHY wouldn't they change the MAIN MESSAGE???????????

WHY is simplisafe so incompetent?

(AND I'm so sick and tired of having to reverify CONSTANTLY on this forum!  It's a FORUM..... Let us verify once then leave of the freak alone!  RIDICULOUS!)

Man am I still waiting for this with android, just hooked up a new system for someone and they have ios and for the first time I saw it on his app and tried it and I was like what, I don't even have that yet. Then I enabled it for him and sure enough it works and it was a whole lot better than the beep and I can't wait. Let's go and get this to android please.

Of course custom names aren't supported. Seriously?

@crosby1612 hey, I'm still just waiting for it to get to Android, ios has had it for a few weeks and I'm over here like why we got to wait so long lol

Repeating known pre-recorded phrases is one thing. Text to speech is another. It's obviously not impossible by any means but it's an entirely different level of complexity to implement. I'd love to have the functionality as well but I'm not at all surprised we're just getting pre-recorded names. This is also why I asked them to add a bunch more pre-populated options.

What's going on with the entry sensors announcement for Android? Ios has had it for a month now and we Android people are over like.... hheelloo. Whats going on as this is not cool. Why ios gets all the cool stuff before Android as I am not an apple guy and love Android but I have to wait months before people with ios. I have installed 3 systems in the last 2 weeks and they have ios phones and they have this feature and I'm waiting like crazy for it over here smh.

I was so pumped to see this announcement. 4+ weeks later and nothing on Android.

I’m noticing I had a mix of older sensors and new sensors. They look exactly the same.

However, the new sensors make the base station make the announcement and the older sensors don’t.

what’s the difference and why is it based on the entry sensors?

@Haziqbaluk if you have a SimpliSafe Gen 3, you should be able to get the Announce feature for all your Entry Sensors. The one thing that may be different is that the feature only works for the pre-generated sensor names. So if you set those "older sensors" with custom names, unfortunately the Announce feature won't work for them.

But you can rename your sensors through both the Keypad and the SimpliSafe app.

@Haziqbaluk All of my entry sensors are 2.5+ years old and they cause the name announce to work just fine. (Though I had to rename my sensors to something on the approved list.)

This is great, however, is it possible to carry this over to the sirens as well?

@tobywildasin When you select the Sensor Name Voice Prompt setting in the SimpliSafe mobile app, you do not see a toggle that says Announce Sensor Name?

In that case, I would recommend deleting the app from your phone and then re-download it to see if that retrieves the toggle.

My gen 3 system will not announce the sensor names. I follow the app setup but nothing happens.

@pastorgreg thanks for reaching out. To enable this feature, you'll need to make sure of three things:

  • You are subscribed to either the Fast Protect or Self-Monitoring with Camera Recordings plan
  • You have Entry Sensor announce enabled in the SimpliSafe app for each sensor under My System > Device Settings > [your sensor] > Entry Sensor Alert > Entry Sensor Name Announcement (this is the default)
  • Your Sensor is given one of the default names. Unfortunately, we cannot support custom named sensors with this feature
