System Firmware 2.1 (March 2021)

Hi folks,

We've got a major update rolling out to all customers soon. Lots of updates under the hood, including performance and security improvements. But there's quite a few noticeable new features as well!

If you've never updated before, here's how:

  1. Make sure your system is connected to WiFi
  2. Check that an update is available by heading over to your Keypad and looking for a Gear icon
  3. Press the side of the screen where the Gear icon is, and follow the on-screen instructions

Here's what's coming in Update 2.1:

  • Improvements to WiFi performance and stability, including compatibility fix for Arris brand routers.
  • Your SimpliSafe system will now appear on your router's list of connected devices as "SimpliSafe", and no longer "Espressif".
  • Revamped Firmware Update process for a smoother experience when updating in the future.
  • "Check for Updates" feature will now immediately request to download the latest update, rather than just checking if it's available to install.
  • Fixed an issue where the Base Station LED might stay lit up after ringing your Video Doorbell.

For Users with an Arris brand Router:

If you have an Arris WiFi router, you may of course not be able to connect your Base Station to that WiFi router, which is necessary to facilitate this firmware update. A possible workaround is to connect your Base Station to a different WiFi network temporarily, until the update is complete.

Should you need to take your Base Station to a different location, you'll only need to bring your Keypads with you. Your sensors and other components can remain in place - you might just get error messages from them while they are out of range.

I know that I am very late in the thread, but just in case...does anyone know if SS can push the firmware to you even though your base says it has the new firmware? CSR says they cannot. My new base that was just updated is doing what the old base did before it was updated to the new firmware. Was not having any issues with the base but because of a keyfob issue they replaced it. Now I am back to same old problems as before the update. Any ideas??

radiojoe,

Assuming that your Base Station is already running the latest firmware, then no, it will not allow installing the same firmware again.

But we call it "firmware" because it's hardcoded into your Base Station, and is only ever changed at the time of updating. So it shouldn't be possible for it to change over time. If there's an issue that keeps popping up with your system, it was either there all along, or there might be a totally different cause that is unrelated to firmware.

I had a recent problem with my system and was sent a new Base Station and Keypad. After re-installation it is working just fine. I just want to verify that they have the latest updates.

My Keypad says it's Version # 2.3.4; Loader 1.0.0, and Hardware 1

The Base Station says it's Version # 2.3.10, Loader 1.0.0, WiFi 2.10.4, and Audio 1.4.10

Soon after the posting above I got an E-mail saying there was a new update for my system. Went to the Keypad and there was the gear symbol indicating an update was ready for download. After the download now my Keypad shows Version 2.5.0; Base Station Version 2.5.2, Wifi 2.11.6, Audio unchanged. Now all up to date...Thank you SimpliSafe!
