Custom App Notification Tones

I recently purchased a new SimpliSafe system (first-time customer), and I must say that I'm very disappointed that the iPhone app does not include any loud and distinguishable sounds for the push notification alerts.  The app just uses the generic iPhone "tri-tone" sound for all push notifications.  This sound is too short and too quiet to alert someone in a louder environment or to wake someone at night.  For a security product whose primary purpose is to alert the user of threats to persons or property, this is a major letdown.  Please, I implore you SimpliSafe, please add some loud and distinguishable push notification sounds for iphone users.  My Ring app for my Ring doorbell has had this functionality for a long time now.

To all the Android users out there that may be reading this confused, iPhones do not allow customizing the push notification sounds for third party apps like Android phones do.  The third party app developer needs to include any custom push notification sounds in the app itself.  Othewise, the iphone will use a generic "tri-tone" sound for all third party apps that don't include their own sounds.

I wholeheartedly agree. Please Simplisafe add this simple feature of being able to control the notification tone and volume for the iPhone. This is a must.  So many notifications get missed due to this. All your competitors have long ago provided this feature for the iPhone.

@jkorsen

the new iOS update 17.3.1 allows changing the default sound from rebound to one that you can choose for SimpliSafe and other third party vendors. I personally set mine using Siri to announce SimpliSafe alarms.

Thanks Sal... I'll look for it and give it a try!

@sal this does not seem to be correct. I am using iOS 17.5, and changing the sound for SimpliSafe notifications and alerts is not possible through the app, through the phone settings for notifications, or through Siri. If you have actually done this Sal, please provide specific step-by-step instructions.

Sorry I just saw this. iOS go to settings and notifications, allow notifications on then scroll to bottom where it’s says Siri-announce notifications. Turn it on. Then scroll to SimpliSafe in the list. Make sure announce notifications are on.

I installed Simplisafe last week , and this was my very first problem with Simplisafe.    And it took the entire week to even find this forum.     I'm having second thoughts about the whole security monitoring thing if they can't even get "sounds" right after years of feedback

@asparisi  Dear fellow user... I want to be quick to add this note to my earlier post. I love my Simplisafe system. I have 17 of their devices installed, including outdoor cameras, indoor cameras, motion sensors, and smoke alarms. I'm have a VERY Good experience. I installed everything myself. I mistakenly set off the alarm a couple of times (once by my dogs) and the monitoring desk was RIGHT ON It!! Quick! Quality is excellent and support is so far has been good too. I've recommended them numerous times.  I'm writing this only because I didn't want the impression left that I was unhappy with the service or system, just this particular feature. It's an important one though and they REALLY Need to fix it, soon!  Thanks! Give it a fair try.  Jeff

After a couple weeks of using Simplisafe, I'm not impressed at all.   having multiple problems with it.  On a busy street and the door bell alert goes off constantly during the day even though I have people only mode, low sensitivity, and every possible sector that shows traffic or plants,  blocked.    I also had the door bell go offline and need a full reset.   Had to remove, depress the reset button and complete a new install process.    What use is a security camera if it suddenly needs to be fully PHYSICALLY reset?    The whole reason to have a security system is RELIABILITY.  What would I do if I was on vacation for a week and the camera needed a reset?    And lastly, one outdoor camera battery drained within a week, while others did not.  Not sure why yet.

I have been trying to change this app tone and reading many posts. Finally came across your post and it is frustrating that I can’t make another more identifiable sound. Come on SimpliSafe do better for your customers

There needs to be an App update to allow users to change notification sounds

Can't you do this on the iPhone?  To a limited extent, I guess but all notifications get "lumped" together with notifications from other apps.  Perhaps a work-around is to activate Siri notification announcements just for SimpliSafe?

No.   The App does not allow any changes to the sound.   Some apps allow sounds to be customized.   Simplisafe app does not.

Hi @asparisi,

If you have an Android, the SimpliSafe mobile app does allow for custom notification sounds as that is a feature of the operating system.

But if you have an iOS device the SimpliSafe mobile app currently does not allow for changing notification sounds. This is a request that we have submitted to our devs for their consideration, though. Once we hear more from them, we'll provide an update over in this thread

I have iOS phone.    I'm surprised it was not already in the current iOS App as this seems intuitive for a home security App.    Thanks for the info.

@emily_s

I think your android response for sound option is not accurate. Not able to verify in Simplesafe mobile app. Provide steps in the app.....

Please update app to have different notification sounds. I have had camera movement every night for the past few nights with people looking in my cars. I don’t just need a little beep. I need a loud notification.

Why the heck does the mail man at the front door make the same chime as someone breaking in? This is TERRIBLE design. Separate the notifications doorbell sensor needs to have its own sound. If the system is disarmed still another set of sounds should be active.

@emily_s

Its been 5 months since you stated that you would find an answer. I think we would all appreciate an update, even if you made no progress. So that we can then take our thoughts to the reviews section instead. Thanks

Wow it’s been 10 months since I’ve said this, and TWO YEARS since my first comment on this thread. Simpli Safe is just fine raising the prices on its Loyal customers when they PROMISED not to, but cannot find a “Simpli” way for us to customize alert tones?!!!

I also can't believe I can't assign a specific sound of this system.  I should be able to assign a different sound to each of my devices if I want to.

This is such an essential feature that needs to be worked on as quick as possible!

I completely agree 💯 !!  The notifications are way too quiet.  Almost like a whisper at a concert.  It is just lazy and unethical that SimpliSafe refuses to change the app to allow their clients to have the ability to change the notification settings.  This is a major failure!

Come on SimpliSafe- it’s been 2 years since this was posted.  You really need to do this.

@Gwiz totally agree, and now it’s been 7 months since stating they would find an answer or some sort of solution for this. Maybe it’s safe to say that was just an empty promise 😞. They can raise our monthly payment, even though that was said to be VERY unlikely to EVER happen…but cannot figure out this simple request from their loyal paying customers!

On Android I can set a custom notification sound for all SimpliSafe "alarms", but I want to set different sounds for different types of alerts. For instance, I want one sound for camera alerts, another for entry sensors, and another for siren activation. If these were separate notification categories instead of being lumped together in a single "alarm" category, then Android would let me set different notification sounds for each category.

What are the steps your using for your android?

@davidfantauzzo These are the steps I use to set the SimpliSafe notification sound on Android:

Android Settings > Notifications > App Notifications > SimpliSafe > Alarm > Sound

Sal is correct... new iOS now allows changing the default sound for SS alerts (in particular Outdoor Camera motion triggered).

Until SS or Apple or both may add specific "volume" levels for specific alert set ups, again, I keep my global "Ringtone and Alert volume" at a very high level.

I also found a unique louder longer tone option in the Classic grouping called "Anticipate".  It is a bit more obnoxious and should get your attention at night/bedside or other times to then react to.

Hope this may help some of you all

Maybe this has been covered, but I'm wanting to change the standard alert sound that I get when someone approaches my door, to something distinguishable. i.e. I don't want it to be the same sound as a text message. Two reasons why: First, if I'm on the road, I'll often ignore a standard text message until it's safe to view the message. With the alert being the same for simplysafe, as my normal text messages, I'd like for there to be a way to tell the difference when I'm driving. Second: My dog is very smart. He knows I get a text when someone is approaching the door, and barks like crazy, just because of the text. That's fine if there's someone at the door, but he now barks every time I get any text message. I'm sure he'll quickly learn the new sound, but still, it's annoying.
Does anyone know if this can be done?

@Daniel75555 it has been requested but so far no action or response from SS. Ding dong would be nice. :-)

You should be able to change the default notification sound for any (or at least almost any) app on your phone, including the SS app.

I don't have SS doorbell to experiment, but it appears I could even set a unique notification sound for the doorbell button vs. say arm/disarm notices. Just for giggles, I set the general notifications for SimpliSafe to "Knock-Knock". Sent myself a text from my work phone and got the expected "beep". Armed and disarmed SS and got "Knock-Knock" notification for each arm and disarm.

If you want to go even further, you could turn on DND for driving (or whenever) but set the notification to bypass DND for the SS app and/or other important ones.

It's imperative that SimpliSafe makes custom notifications a feature. Right now, the time is not distinctive or sharp enough. Too easy to miss. It's very frustrating.

I totally agree, it would be nice for Simplisafe to come up with a jingle, any jingle will be fine.
