@wleonard3 I understand. At this time, the only way to trigger an alarm on the security system is from the equipment locally- either from the Panic Buttons, or from the sensors when the system is armed.
I just upgraded to a Gen3 system. The old key fob wasn't practical to carry around, but how will my wife avoid changing modes or triggering a panic with the key fob when she stuffs it into her purse?
@sjmiller the Key Fob buttons aren't that easy to accidentally activate - it takes deliberate pressing. The built-in Panic Button even requires a full 2-second press to trigger an alarm.
If you have a Generation 2, yes, the battery is replaceable. If you have the latest generation (or SS3), no, the battery is not. You must replace the entire Fob.
@jhirata Shiherlis is correct, if you have a Gen 3 Key Fob, its battery cannot be replaced. If you reach out to our Support team, they can help send you a new one.
I was hoping the key fob could also be used to unlock the SimpliSafe Smartlock instead of having to enter the pass code. Assuming that is not the case, is there a smartlock fob I can use?

Hi @wleonard3 ,
The Key Fob communicates with your Base Station, kind of like a mini-Keypad. So it does need to be within range of the system in order to function.
For remote arm or disarm, we would recommend connecting your system to the SimpliSafe app, available for iOS and Android devices.

How does one operate the Key Fob at home, to turn the system off. Or is Key Fob, only used when you leave the house? Thanks...
