is a keypad absolutely required?

hello there!

i plan on using my phone for pretty much everything.  don't need a key fob.  does the system itself actually require the keypad?  can setup be done without it?  i do plan to have the interactive monitoring.

thanks,

chris

Good question.  It's not needed at all for normal operation.  It was used pretty heavily during setup tho to pair sensors with the system and I don't see a way to do that with the app or the web site.  So I'm fairly sure it's required.

The keypad does make a nice device for quickly setting the system to home mode tho when you're indoors.  We use the app 100% of the time when we come home, but have a few keypads around the house for quick home mode enabling.

Ok wait, I might be wrong on this.  The app does have a section for adding devices.  Maybe you don't need the keypad.

I'm not sure, but I have three keypads and rarely use them. I use the app or keyfob 99.9999% of the time.

You should probably ask SS sales this question. Keypad is very handy when you have babysitter, house sitter, guests, etc... coming in and out of your house as you can create seperate codes for them to use, and you will be notified on your app the time and name assigned to each code.

Also, when you enter or exit your house, it is the keypad that beeps and counts down to remind you to enter your code to turn off the alarm or to exit.

It has a panic button on it, and you can also assign it a distress code, that when entered it will not sound your alarm, but it will contact the monitoring company and they will dispatch the police and tell them it is a hostage situation.

Also, if you lose your phone you'll be SOL. I'd get a keypad.

Here is a question, dont you need the keypad for updates and to do the updates? Even if you dont use the keypad i would still have it there as the app sometimes can be iffy here and there as the keypad pretty much never have an issue with so i say have the keypad but if you don't use it then dont but i think you cant do updates without it, sure someone will correct me if im wrong

I'm pretty sure you need the keypad for updates - all of the prompts before and during the update utilize the keypad (and isn't it free along with the base station with original purchase?)

I don't know why anyone wouldn't want a keypad.  One can see errors right when you're standing in front of it.  Lost or can't find your phone, you can use the keypad, lost your keyfob, can use the keypad, have an update ready, I think you have to use the keypad.  Going to move and leave the system with the new owner, pretty sure they're going to want the keypad.
