Yeah, the sudden radio silence from admins isn’t coincidence probably.
SimpliSafe quietly announced they’re being acquired by GTCR last month — that post vanished out the bottom of the forum in a day or so before disappearing into oblivion.
Usually when a private equity firm steps in, things go quiet while they shuffle the deck and figure out what to cut or rebrand. So don’t be surprised if the forum or support structure starts “evolving.”
Some of us saw this coming a mile away — hopefully they realize some in the community here actually know what’s going on. 😉 Typical actually.
@dlpsr It's unfortunate that SS has allowed this to happen. I also saw it coming long ago and have started replacing the terrible SS cameras. Next SS will be replaced and good riddance. SS had every opportunity to make things right, but decided to be money W#or3$.
I still arm the SS sensors in Home Assistant but thats about it.
When they fail, I already have an operational Zigbee security DIY setup to take it's place. SS sensors are just backup redundant security for now.
Five outdoor Cams & two doorbells, they do still ring the chime, OD cams are just wall decorations. Self monitoring. Other cams run circles around them.
@dlpsr Here are a couple of screen shots from theoutdoor camera (which also works indoors), wireless, 4k, and can run on 5GHz. First pic was at 3am, second this morning.
@cornholio Nice, I have a 4k wifi no battery, outside also. It is connected to 5ghz and is performing well thru my brick walls and plaster. $80
I also have a bunch of inexpensive models that perform well enough, also no batteries, inside stuck in window mounts and outside. 1080p to 2.5k. from $25 and up depending model, flood, pan tilt zoom etc.
Exterior cheap motion floods for all night color. 4k below, landscape lol.
