Mounting Entry Sensors on a door?

Hi:

When using the screws to mount the entry sensor to a door, do folks recommend that one drill a pilot hole? If so, what diameter drill bit should I use?

(Normal wood door, using the supplied SimpliSafe screws.)

Also, does it matter if one mounts the sensor to the moving door and the magnet to the fixed door jamb, or vice versa?

Thank you!!!

@charpatton Drilling a pilot hole is not necessary when using screws to mount the Entry Sensor to a door. You should be able to use a Phillips head screwdriver to put in the screws; but if you would like to drill a pilot hole first, you should use a 3/64" drill bit.

It also doesn't matter which part of the door you install the sensor and magnet to, just as long as both pieces of the sensor are less than 1.5 inches apart when the door is closed.

Hey @mikee00b5e

Hey @swaples,

  • The Entry Sensor includes two mounting screws that measure 1/8" in diameter and are 1/4" flat head screws
  • The Motion Sensor Gen 2 includes two 1/2" Phillips #1 screws
  • The Motion Sensor Gen 1 includes two screws that measure 1/8" in diameter and are 1/4" flat head screws

@charpatton Forget screws on wooden doors. We have solid oak doors and my wife said no to that. All are mounted, securely, with 3M picture hanger strips that are adhesive on one side and Velcro on the other. Works great too for motion and glass break sensors placed in corners. Not a straight wall in the house and the extra thickness of the 3M picture strips fill them in nicely. I specifically use the 3 pound rated strips, which of course, the sensors come nowhere near that. You can buy a large pack for cheap at Ace, Home depot or Lowes.
