System Firmware 2.3 (August 2021)

Hi folks,

We've got another one rolling out to all users soon. You'll notice from the smaller bump in version number, it's a smaller update this time, mostly for further refinements to WiFi connectivity. Of course, we still recommend installing to keep your system in good shape!

If you've never updated before, you can refer to our Help Center article here to get started.

Here's what's coming in Update 2.3:

  • Added support for Wireless Outdoor Security Camera!
  • You can now connect to an unencrypted WiFi connection, if you wish (might help for troubleshooting!)
  • WiFi security enhancements
  • When current firmware version needs to be updated to support new hardware, you'll get a warning only during Pairing Mode
  • Various connectivity performance improvements

Hi middlemaan and Piwacet,

Yes, we can push updates from our side - provided that your Base Stations have the update available during our rollout. I've tried pushing the update to your units again - you'll want to head over to your Keypads to give permission for the update to proceed.

And of course you'll want to make sure that your Base Stations are properly connected to WiFi. If the update still isn't available for you, there might be something going on with your WiFi networks, perhaps a block on your firewall that is preventing the update. Is it possible for you to move your Base Stations to a different WiFi network temporarily, just for the update?

Johnny M.  Thanks for the reply.

Just so I understand .... If the update is available there should be the gear symbol on the keypad?

This system is at my daughter's house.  I want to make sure I know what to ask her to look for since it is about 100 miles round trip for me to get over there.

Your post about the WIFI network brings up another problem we have been having with the base station.
SimpliSafe send out a new base station around a couple of months ago.  The new base station was sent because I was notified that the old base station only had 3G capabilities for the cellular.
Since replacing the base station, we intermittently get notifications that the base station has lost the WIFI connection .... and then a few minutes later that it has returned to normal.  There doesn't seem to be any pattern to when this happens and will sometimes be several days between occurrences.
We NEVER had this problem with the old base station which had been installed for a couple of years .... so, I am very concerned that I was sent a bad base station.  I have a hard time believing the problem is in the WIFI since the other base station had no problems for that length of time.  Maybe this base station was recycled from someone else?
While the base station has reporting a connectivity problem ... I have been able to view live video with both of the cameras she has installed.  The data rate needed for the WIFI should be a lot less for the base station than the cameras.
The base station is only a few feet from the WIFI router.  It was right next to it, but I moved it away a little thinking it might be too close.

Thanks Johnny!

I don't see the gear icon yet. I will tether my base station to my phone as much as I can when I'm at home to see if having it on a different wifi network helps.

Really appreciate it!

One more thing to add for both fo you,

If you don't see the Gear Icon right away, I'd suggest heading over to the Keypad and hit Menu > [type in your PIN] > Check For Updates. That should trigger a check right away, rather than having to wait for it.

And middlemaan,

That sounds like part of what the most recent firmware versions were trying to address. After a successful update, you should see significant improvements.

The system still doesn't have a gear symbol or any indication that it is trying to update.

I tried to get the system to update when I was there the other day by checking for updates thru the keypad .... I just says .... System is up to date ..... even though it's not.  Same result at both keypads.

Thanks.

So I tried to update via tethering on my phone, and was on the phone with customer support as they kept trying to push the update, and per customer support, it kept saying "in progress" or something like that. The data usage on my phone did not show much data transfer. I did have my home wifi turned off to avoid having my android phone simply act as a repeater for the home wifi, so I was sure it was coming from a different internet provider.

Then support was concerned that my cell phone or wireless provider may be blocking port 8899. So I switched back to using my home router and made sure port 8899 was forwarded to the base station.

With this customer service said that on their end the software push was showing as completed.

However, I still do not have a gear icon and "check for updates" shows "my system is up to date."

Base station firmware version 1.4.62.

Thanks for your help/effort! Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm in the same boat.  Base station firmware still at 1.6.8 and no prompts for update.  When I use the keypad to check it just comes back "system is up to date".  is there another way that will FORCE an update - power, reset, etc??

Hi jeffdarter,

There's a more recent update that changes the Check for Updates function, so that it forces the download whenever it's available. Unfortunately, we need to update your system to add that function!
I've gone ahead and pushed the update to your system as well. If you don't already see the Gear icon on your Keypad, head over to Check for Updates in the Menu again and it should pop up.

Johnny,

Thanks for your reply, but I'm still not seeing a "gear icon" on the keypad and I get the same message when I go to the "check for updates" menu option (system is up to date).  Is the push you did what was supposed to update my system so that I could update my system?  :)

I'm trying to add an outdoor camera via the android app but it keeps taking me to a screen that says I need to update my system software first.  Any way to get around that?

Thanks for your help Johnny. I was wondering if I could ask a favor, if you could try to push the update one more time. I'm still on 1.4.62.

If this doesn't work I can check with customer support and see if they send out a new base station, hopefully with at least the 2.1 firmware. Maybe if the base station actually tries to initiate the download it will go better for me in the future.

Thanks, appreciate your time!

Just and update.

When I was on the phone with customer service on Sept 3, they decided that I needed to replace one of the 2 keypads ..... I'm still not sure how they came to that conclusion.
One of the keypads was ver 1.0.2 and the other was 1.1.4 ..... So, yesterday I replaced the one with the older version with the new keypad .... which is also 1.1.4.

This made no difference to the system.  I get the same response when checking for software updates that merely says the system is up to date.
The base station is still at 1.6.4 and I don't get any gear symbol indicating an update is available.

I'm guessing that I am also going to need to replace the base station with a version that will actually accept a software update.  Seems like the 1.6.4 version is problematic.

So in order to get up-to-date, do I need a firmware updates on my base or just the keypad?   And since there doesn't seem to be a way to fix the wifi update method should I just demand new hardware WITH the current firmware when I call support?

I will call support again to see if I can get this software update issue resolved.

If not, I think I'm going to have to get the base station swapped out with the latest version installed before sending it to me.
