System Firmware 2.12 (April 2023)

Hello Community,

This latest update is a more quiet one, focused mostly on setting up for upcoming features.

Here’s what’s coming in 2.12:

  • Number of warnings that can be displayed in the Keypad Notification increased to 20 items
  • “Freeze Sensor” has been renamed to the more accurate “Temperature Sensor”
  • Stability and performance enhancements
  • Laying groundwork to support upcoming features

Will this update address the issue me and others started having after the last update?
I was told it would, but is not listed here?

The issue is that when put in HOME or AWAY the system will go into that mode multiple during the night or day.
I was told after MANY talks with CS that the issue was known and would be address.
I'm worried it is not because just last week after over a month+ being told it would be address a person from CS called asking me if they could help me with my issue and started asking me all the same questions I already went threw many times months ago. He seemed to have no record where I was told the issue was known and will be addressed???

I do not need someone to call me and spend 40 minutes reviewing all the steps already done 3-4x in the past several months. I just would like a real response since the response keeps moving.

@eamail2001 I found your post extremely interesting, and of course, worrisome as I have not experienced this with my SS3 system. Were you told how wide spread it is? (I know the most important fact is it is happening with you.)

Will appreciate your feedback. Thank you in advance.

I remember when I first posted about this 2-3 other people posted that the same thing started happening to them after that update.

Hi @eamail2001,

This fix will come in a future firmware update. However, please be rest assured that your system isn’t arming or disarming itself on its own. Rather, the Base Station is sending an update and announcing its current status. This can happen due to multiple different reasons. An example is if you enter the Keypad’s menu, don’t make any adjustments, and don’t exit the menu. In a future update, the Base Station will continue to send updates about its status, but it will not announce it, and you will not receive additional notifications about it.

Hi , the reason for joining in this forum is looking for answers to the following problem. My system is having same problem as ea ail2001 mentioned. Every 16 minutes it announces the status and realtime status of the door sensors are reset. Had discussion with support and I was advised to upgrade to 4g cellular module. Note that I am from India and not subscribed to any Plan. Using the system on wifi about more than two years. Any pointers in rectifying this appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi @rajendrapreddy_1204,

Our devs are aware of this issue, and they are currently working on a fix for it! This will be resolved in a future Base Station firmware update, so I would make sure that your keep your system up to date.

So "Laying groundwork to support upcoming features" has been listed in every update since the 2.6 update in February of 2022. I've included the text of all of the updates from 2.6 until now (Copied directly from the post announcing the update when it was released) below and literally none of these look like new "features" to me:

Here’s what’s coming in Update 2.6: (February 2022)

- Fixed a very rare issue where locking/unlocking the Smart Lock through the app multiple times can cause the Base Station’s LED indicator to cycle.
- Replaced the Base Station siren sound for both Smoke Detector and Carbon Monoxide Detector alarm to comply with UL985 standard.
- Laying groundwork for upcoming features.

Here’s what’s coming in Update 2.8: (June 2022)

- Optimizations to local communication, especially between Base Station and Keypad
- Fixes for some issues encountered with replacement module install process
- Laying groundwork to support upcoming features
- Fixes an issue with Keypad reboots when Sensors are activated

Here’s what’s coming in 2.9: (September 2022)

- If a Fire Alarm is already in progress, Intruder Alarms (Entry, Motion, and Glassbreak) will no longer trigger unless it could trigger on its own e.g. By default, Motion Sensors will not trigger during an ongoing Fire Alarm unless the system was previously in Away Mode
- Optimizations for Initial Setup process
- UK ONLY: Added support for Video Doorbell Bell Box accessory.
- Laying the groundwork for upcoming features

Here’s what’s coming in 2.10: (January 2023)

- Added support for UL985 Standard for Safety Household Fire Warning System Units:
     - Power Outage and Power Restored notifications will now be sent 60 seconds after the actual event
     - The system will now display a "Base Station batteries are not charging" if it detects an issue with either the circuit or the batteries
- Fixed an issue where the Base Station may not properly clear “Device Not Responding” errors after a component has successfully checked in again
- Stability and performance improvements
- Laying groundwork to support upcoming features

Here’s what’s coming in 2.12: (APril 2023)

- Number of warnings that can be displayed in the Keypad Notification increased to 20 items
- “Freeze Sensor” has been renamed to the more accurate “Temperature Sensor”
- Stability and performance enhancements
- Laying groundwork to support upcoming features

So what kind of "features" are we talking about and how much longer, on top of the 16 months we've been waiting, until we see these new features?  Will it be 2023? 2024? Please throw us a bone and don't just leave us hanging for another year or two. This has been and continues to be a ridiculous and insulting way to treat your paying customers.

@worthing

They usually lay groundwork for each upcoming update.  So if you see that message, then there will be an added feature or features on next update.  They are always enhancing system, so you will most notably see that message in each update.

@worthing  Agree COMPLETELY💯💯💯

Your response is, respectfully, meaningless. As I noted in my question I'm aware that supposedly new features are coming but I'm asking what those new features are because I don't see any for over a year despite being repeatedly told there are upcoming new features.

@worthing but pitalyne has the right idea. The simple answer is that we're always laying the groundwork for future features that we're not ready to talk about yet - the same ones you end up seeing in the following updates. Like how the "groundwork" in 2.6 was actually the beginnings of UL985 Support that finally surfaced in 2.10.

I have in the past gone back through older announcements to add the actual details, when I can.

UPDATE: Got the new April Update and still having the same issue where the system will disarm or arm many times.

*EDIT: to be clear. the system does not auto disarm. What ever mode I'm in it will just re-do that mode several times during the day or night.

I just did latest frimware update and noticed that the base station no longer states if a device is open when arming in home or away.   Did this feature get removed because it saved me a few times when my back door wasnt properly closed.  Thanks.

Hi @pitalyne,

That feature did not get removed. I would try resetting the Base Station to see if that fixes this. You can reset your Base Station by taking the following steps:

  1. Unplug the power cord from the Base Station and use a Phillips Head screwdriver to remove the screw below the plug
  2. Remove the bottom cover and remove one battery from the Base Station
  3. Wait 30 seconds
  4. Reassemble the Base Station by inserting the battery, cover, and the power cord

I'm just here hoping one of these updates will introduce actual entry door sensor announcements, instead of just a chime. One can dream...

@BJZ  Bless you...if that's the only problem you have with your SimpliSafe system, you're doing so much better than the majority of us. 🥺

I’m not sure if this is the place to post it, but I’d really like to be able to turn my outdoor camera off during Off mode. I’m considering sending back the entire system because I don’t like being recorded in my own backyard even though I have it OFF. Off should mean off.

@mageemadison In case you missed it, SS now gives you the ability to "snooze" motion detection for either 30 or 60 minutes via push alerts sent to your phone. Yes, not what you currently are asking for but at least something.

Hi @mageemadison,

Captain makes a great point! Snooze Notifications may be a good workaround for you right now. You can learn more about this feature and how to enable it here in our Help Center. You do have a good idea, though. I'll pass it along to our dev team!

@mageemadison I will add that we already have an active request for what you're asking for. We'll update this thread when we have news about it.

And if you have any other suggestions, you can create a new post by following these instructions.

Bumping this thread for visibility. It's been a week and clearly emily_s has seen the thread so someone at SS has viewed my response but still no response.  It's 2023 y'all and while I don't expect a 24 hour response (though, let's be honest, given the low amount of traffic that the community site gets, that should be doable) but a week is too long. Please engage with your customers and provide answers.

I am tired of hearing the random "Welcome to SimpliSafe" pronouncement.

What changed with the 2.12.2 Keypad update?

@pgibian this update was a quieter one that predominately focused on setting us up for upcoming features. However, two new additions from this update are that the number of warnings that can be displayed in the Keypad Notification increased to 20, and that "Freeze Sensor" in the Keypad has been accurately renamed to "Temperature Sensor."
