System Firmware 2.6 (February 2022)

Hi folks,

The first Base Station update for the year is a smaller one, focused on minor improvements and setting up for future improvements. It's starting to roll out now and will be available to all users soon. For those new to updating firmware for your Base Station, check out our Help Center Article here.

Here’s what’s coming in Update 2.6:

  • Fixed a very rare issue where locking/unlocking the Smart Lock through the app multiple times can cause the Base Station’s LED indicator to cycle.
  • Replaced the Base Station siren sound for both Smoke Detector and Carbon Monoxide Detector alarm to comply with UL985 standard.
  • Laying groundwork for upcoming features.

And for those who have a Wireless Outdoor Camera, Update 1.6 is still gradually rolling out as well, with some great performance improvements. Learn more about it here.

How do you see the base FW version? I checked for update and it said it is up to date.

@eamail2001

I saw it yesterday on my system and applied it today.  The version changed for both the base station and keypad.

To view your current version:

From the keypad, press menu, your pin > System Settings > all the way down to Diagnostics > Keypad > Base Station.

I have both the Smoke Detector and Carbon Monoxide detectors, meaning I have three different alarm tones.  A feature request is to add a voice prompt to identify which it is, the voice prompts for smoke detector and carbon monoxide are already in the system and it would be a great help if I'm woke up at 3am to know if I should be worried about an intruder, a fire, or carbon monoxide, they all have a different sound, but it would help.

Is this firmware updated for 2nd generation SimpliSafe systems

@mmcauliffe0752 this firmware is for 3rd-generation SimpliSafe systems only. SimpliSafe Original systems (1st- and 2nd- gen) cannot be updated at all.

Hello.

3rd Generation system.

My base station still shows version 2.5.2.

I checked with my keypads if there was an update available but it was negative.

Is there anything that I need to do in order to force the update to 2.6?

My keypads have version 2.5.0 installed, if it makes any difference.

@C_S the rollout is happening gradually. As long as your system is connected to WiFi, the gear icon should appear on your Keypad soon.

Thank you.

When is HomeKit support comming?

When is the ability to force updates manually coming instead of forcing us to wait for 0-4 weeks to get updates? There are much larger companies with many more devices that give their customers the ability to force updates so it's possible.

@worthing the Check for Updates function on your Keypad does exactly that.

It's just that our dev team deliberately limits availability over the first few days - both to keep an eye out for unforeseen issues, and so that our servers aren't overwhelmed.

first few days

I've commented on this before but this is not the behavior I see. The last update, prior to this one, I checked for updates daily for almost a month before it finally showed up as available. I believe others have said the same.

Can you please check with the code monkeys and get an exact answer from them on how long the updates are delayed?  :)  And to whom exactly (and why) it is made available? Is it random?

@worthing calling engineers code monkeys is probably exactly why you are getting updates last!!

Any code monkey who takes offense at code monkey is too serious a code monkey. :)  Sure it can be used derogatorily but that's not how I was using it at all. I have all the respect for code monkeys without whom we wouldn't have computers, smart phones, the internet, etc.

@davey_d In my diagnostics section of the keypad it says under "cell" that it's "disconnected" and that the carrier is "Vodaphone". Then says the network is "roaming" and gives IP address.

Have no idea what this is. My iPhone is connected to SS system and I use AT&T for carrier.

Would LOVE the ability to schedule arming and disarming. Much like a programmable thermostat. Scheduled to arm at night and disarm in the morning. Then arm again mid day etc etc.

Any idea why my gen3 system now says, "alarm off, alarm off" (twice) on disabling? This started happening after a 2021 update.

@Tarx does that happen specifically after you disarm using your Keypad? If so, it might be a sign of severe interference. In that scenario, when your Keypad sends a disarmed signal, it's not hearing the acknowledgement from the Base Station, so it tries to send the disarm again. So we'd need to troubleshoot for causes of that interference.

I'm trying to install a new outdoor camera and it says I need to update my system.  I checked for updates and the keypad says my system is up to date.  I tap "System Updated" in the app and it prompts me to update again.  I'm stuck in a loop.

@Ishkakin sorry to hear about this. Is your Base Station already connected to your home's WiFi? You can check by going to the Keypad Menu > System Settings > Diagnostics.

If your system is connected via WiFi, a gear icon should show up on the side of the default screen of your Keypad (the screen that shows the system armed state), showing an available update.

I'm having the same issue. Did yours ever resolve? I called and they said that there was an update that needed to be pushed to me. After troubleshooting and powering down the base and keypad, they were able to push to me. They could see the base eventually downloading it and estimated it would be a couple hours for the keypad to show it was ready to install.....it's now the next day and still not on the keypad and i still can't add my outdoor camera.

@Ruiya Since you mention that we can already see the download in progress, it sounds like your Base Station is indeed connected to WiFi. But the download isn't completing?

There might also be a compatibility issue with your WiFi router - which is another issue that might be resolved by firmware update!

I would suggest connecting your Base Station to a different WiFi network - perhaps at another location, or if you have a Hotspot available from your phone. Once the update is downloaded and installed, you should be able to connect to the original network again.

My Versions

Base Station: v1.3.2

Keypad: v1.2.16

Am I on the most recent version for both?  If not, I do not have any notification of an update on the keypad.  Yes, my system is connected via Wifi.

@py0719 wow, your firmware is way behind! Our engineers had a look at your account and tried something on our end. Please head over to your Keypad whenever you can to check if you've got the Gear Icon, indicating an available update.

@py0719 looks like that didn't do the trick. I'll DM you for the next step.

I am in the same boat. Brand new install, hooked to and verified 2.4ghz wifi. Pretty darned frustrating. Base station is 1.6.4. keypad is 2.3.4..

I suppose I'll wait overnight and see if the base station downloads the update.

Tech support said she saw where it downloaded 31% but dropped. She blamed that on the fact that I have 5g and 2.4g on the same router.

Thanks for reporting, @JozyWales.

That bit about 2.4GHz vs 5GHz is unfortunately incorrect. But when coming over from much older firmware, the download might take a bit longer. Though it does sound like it had already started, so that's good. Since it's been a couple of days, your Base Station should already be on the latest version!

@davey_d The replacement system does not have the most recent firmware (v2.6).  It has v1.6.4 - which is still a ways off.  Any suggestions?

@mmkremer as mentioned, I was slightly incorrect. It's normal for only one of the connections - WiFi or cell - to be connected at the same time. As soon as one disconnects, the other one takes over near-instantly.

About the cell connection specifically: your Base Station has its own cell connection that has nothing to do with your personal phone service.

Though you do mention that yours is still connecting to "Vodafone", which means that your system is still connected through 2G. Since we're phasing that out, we strongly recommend that you upgrade to 4G as soon as possible. I do see on your account that you already called in to make that happen!

I have had SimplySafe for about two years. My system has never received an up date. I have never gotten the gear symbol on any of my three keypads. Whenever I check for updates using the keypad it always says my system is up to date.

I have worked with support on multiple calls to try and figure out why my system will not receive an update. The system has been on WiFi since the day I installed it. Support has sent me two replacement base stations and my system will still not receive updates.

My software versions are:

2.3.1.0 for the base station

1.6.2 for two keypads

1.4.2 for one keypad

Not sure what to do to get this fixed.

@rongalla I've gotten a replacement base station and it still won't receive updates.  I personally don't think there is a way to update.  At this rate, they should allow us to download a firmware and manually update it (if that's even possible).

25 Messages

@py0719 I feel your pain. I have close to 40 devices on my WiFi network. The only one can't seem to do what it is supposed to is the SimplySafe firmware update. Their documentation about how updates work is also very strange. Some articles say the base station automatically updates and other articles  say you have to do the gear thing.

Hello @rongalla , thanks for letting us know about your issue. I see that you also created a thread, and I will answer there.

11 Messages

@rongalla I've gotten a 2nd replacement base station (06/06/2022).  It's STILL showing the firmware as v1.6.4.  I checked for updates on the keypad, and the unit says I have the latest firmware.  Go figure.  Best of luck to you.

Same issue here. Bought two outdoor cameras. Can't update the Base Station. My keypad says the system is updated no matter how many times I try. Wi-fi us connected in Diagnostics.

Base station is on version 1.3.4. I've been a customer since 2019.

Not sure what to do.

25 Messages

@GUSHandGO You need to have them send you a base station with firmware version 2.5 or later already installed. That was the fix for me to start receiving automatic updates.

11 Messages

@rongalla That's the key right there: a pre-installed firmware of v2.5+ before they ship the base station to you.  Each one that was sent to me still has the old v1.6.4 (this has happened twice).

@GUSHandGO I hope you have better luck than me.
