Secret Alerts = No Chime?

I figured out how to set up secret alerts so I can see when my doors open and close when the system is disarmed. However the chime stopped playing. Do the secret alerts cancel out the chime or is it a coincidence and my system is glitching?

Hi @TheRealLeoH ,

Yes, the Secret Alert is just that - secret. It's meant for a situation where you don't want an intruder to know that the door is guarded. For example, if you want to keep your kids out of your liquor cabinet or gun safe, or a specific room in the house.

So unfortunately yes, when Secret Alerts are enabled, the chime for that sensor is disabled as well.

The chime has a manual setting and should be programmed to allow the user to choose whether or not to they want it with the secret alert. This limitation is poor programming and frustrating to users who need both the alert and chime.

How do I get a chime sort of alert without the text?  That way I notice door or kitchen chime that lets me know someone is there.

I want text for other reasons, not movement in my kitchen or front door.

@late_for_supper the Door Chime feature is enabled by default. Are you not able to hear it from your Base Station whenever a door or window is opened?

I've been with SimpliSafe for over nine years and this is a deal breaker for me. My mother has dementia and I need both the chime for the caregiver watching her in the home and the alert for those away from the home. What's really frustrating about this is that there is a setting especially for the chime. I should be able to manually turn on and off the chime regardless of the other settings. Now I have to look at another system and find one that does both. So frustrating.

@davey_d commented earlier in this thread:

It's also worth noting, in case someone doesn't realize this, that when secret alert is enabled it also doesn't trigger an alarm or notify the monitoring center. In short, with secret alert enabled, all functionality is disabled EXCEPT for the notification that only you receive when the sensor is triggered.

If you have a door where you want secret alert (because you always want a notice when that door opens no matter what) AND you want an alarm to trigger on that door if it opens when the alarm is set then you need two physical sensors. One would be set to Secret Alert and the other would not be set to Secret Alert.

@worthing that's a good callout, though I would add that with the Gen 3 system, you can choose which modes to have Secret Alert active in. So for example, you can have it enabled in Home or Off modes, but leave the default Alarm in Away Mode.

Just got my system and would like to setup the secret alert system.  Any help would be much appreciated.

As of right now, in off mode, any door/window device is opened, I do not have any alert that the device is open.

Thanks,

@LostPatrol the setting is configured for each sensor. So you can find it in the SimpliSafe app under Menu > My System > Device Settings.

I just learned yesterday that any sensor set to secret alert will not chime when it is opened.   I wish there was a way to have both - so that I hear the chime when I'm in the house but get a text when I'm not (for example, if I'm working in the yard but the alarm isn't on).   It's nice to know when people are coming and going when I'm not in earshot of the chime.   Here's one vote for adding that option.

I need both and cannot wait for SimpliSafe. Have you found a system that does both? I need this too.

it has been 2 years, do we have any update to alleviate this problem and fix the feature from SimpliSafe?
