Keypad batteries die in a week

Have had SS since July, and have gone through tons of AA batteries.  I called and was sent a new Keypad, thinking it was defective.  The results are the same.  Actually a fresh set of batteries didn't last more than five days, and that was after the batteries that it came with also died out in a few days.  What is going on??  The motion detector in the living room seems to activate the keypad (the backlight turns on) when you walk by.  Are there optimum settings for this thing?  I hear they should last anywhere from 6-8 months.  I've used Costco brand, Durecell, Enegizer, all the same results.

@gilmore.mara, what do you mean the motion sensor seems to turn on the keypad? There is no way that should happen. I would call SS support and troubleshoot. I have not replaced any batteries, including my two keypads, and they have been in operation since January.

You're right, it shouldn't happen.  Seems that the back light turns on based on proximity.  But it seems to just be on randomly at times, so not sure if that's what is causing the battery drain.  The odds of two bad keypads just seems remote, so I'm just wondering if it's something I haven't configured correctly.

@ gilmore.mara, don't beat yourself up. There is a battery saving mode but I don't have it turned on and both my keypads, entire system for that matter, has not had one battery issue since January.  Again, suggest you call SS to troubleshoot.

Thanks Captain.  I never saw the power savings option.  I've enabled it, so let's see if that gets me past a week on these new batteries.  Appreciate the feedback.

@gilmore.mara, I doubt that is going to change anything.  My quess, and only a guess, is possibly interference keeping the connection between the base and keypad unstable and reconnecting using a lot of the battery.  Good luck and let us know how it is going. One good thing, you do know for sure this is not normal for the system.

Any resolution to this situation?  It's happening on my 4.5 year old system. Batteries are lasting less than a month.

I can only share that I've not had this problem with two different SimplySafe systems (first generation and now the current system). The batteries seem to last forever.

My SS3 keypad, about a few weeks old turned on today, just with me walking near it.  Pretty sure I did not touch it.

I need to do more research on this.

Just got the system.  My entry sensors keep falling off.  Apparently the sticky doesn't work. These NEED to be attached by screws?

ride525, the keypad lighting up for no reason is a known issue (since last year, just another "issue" that never gets fixed).

One rep posted last year that it senses motion, although don't know how true that is - and nothing was ever noted in it's specs, install guide, FAQ;s, or anything else.  Reports here are such as: ceiling fan on, tv's being on, person sitting 10 feet away,  turning on at random, with no one near (most popular, lol).

I can trigger the keypad on by just brushing my sleeve against keypad, with no real pressure,

This is happening to me also. I've had my system for over a year and in the past 2 weeks I've gone through 4 sets of batteries. Not sure why, other than I think I downloaded an update right before that. Anyone else still having issues?
Same for me.  I rarely had to replace keypad batteries.  Then after the last system update I've had to replace the batteries twice in one month.  From my perspective it has something to do with the update.  My keypad used to stay dark until it was touched or a sensor was triggered.  Now for no reason at all, it will frequently illuminate for a few minutes then go back to sleep.  I suspect this is why the batteries are being depleted so quickly.

I have had my system since January 2015.  In the last year my keyboard batteries have been lasting less than a month. Typically they lasted almost a year.  No change in system or usage.  Called support and they sent me a new keypad.  Problem the same, both old and new keypads using up battery charge in weeks.  Purchased re-chargeable batteries until I decide what to do.

Same issue. Just purchased the system a few months ago and we've gone through two sets of batteries in the last two weeks. Seems like a software issue. Hoping for an update soon.

@twnkltoez0 that is not the usual case, both of my keypads last well beyond 7 months. Call SS and troubleshoot, if not resolved have the keypad(s) replaced at nc under warranty.
