Doorbell securing screw stuck

I need to connect my doorbell to a new router but the securing screw on the bottom of the doorbell seems to be stripped. It will not unscrew. Any ideas on how to get it off of the wall?

@pepperony9 sorry to hear that you're having trouble.

The first thing we should make sure of is that you're using the T5 torx screwdriver that was included with your Video Doorbell, since the screw is not a regular Phillips (plus-shaped) screw. If you've lost yours, our Support team can send a replacement.

Assuming that you're using the correct screwdriver, and the screw is indeed stripped, it might help to try the 'rubber band trick'. Place a rubber band between the screen and the screwdriver, to provide extra grip. That might be enough to at least get the screw out a little but, so you can unscrew by hand or with small pliers.

And of course, our Support team can send a spare screw as well, when you get the old one out.

@pepperony9 I would call support on this one, and at a minimum, they can send you a new mounting plate. Just a question, however: why do you have to remove the doorbell unit to connect to a new router?

@captain11 if you've already taken down your old router, so the Video Doorbell becomes disconnected, the only other way to set up a new connection would be through a reset! That would be why unmounting the Video Doorbell is required.

I ended up prying it off. The screw is stripped and not coming out at all. I can't get it out of the doorbell at all.

How did you pry it off? Did anything break? How did you get back on!?

@btmiller4 I see that the Support agent you spoke to is sending you a new torx screwdriver to help remove the security screw. If you're still experiencing an issue removing the Video Doorbell's security screw when the screwdriver arrives, please let me know!

I'm curious how you were able to pry this off? I have a similar situation and they are sending me a replacement camera.

@NMcd07 There is absolutely no reason to pry it off the wall. When you get your new unit it will have another T5 Torx  screwdriver in the box to remove the screw on the old unit and to install the new one. I went to a local Ace Hardware store and bought one so I have it for the future. (Don't know what I did with the one SS shipped with it)

The screw on mine was stripped so there was no other way to remove it but to take it off the wall.

@pepperony9 Yup, Same situation the screw is stripped - I've had to take it off a few times recently for resetting the wifi - and I guess I didn't realize I stripped it the last time. No way of getting it out now.

What did you use to pry it off with?

@captain11 I have the correct screwdriver...the screw is stripped.

@NMcd07 It can help to place a rubber band over the head of the screw and then insert the screwdriver into the rubber band. This should add a bit of extra grip to remove the screw.

Agreed. The screw sucks. Same problem. I drilled the screw head with a small drill bit, enough to tap a small flathead screwdriver in the hole and get enough pull to back it out.  Now off to the HW store to get a new one.
