Recessed Door Sensor?

@ES2020 SS3 equipment is only compatible with SS3 equipment.

Or, if you are handy,  you can modify an entry system to work with a wired switch, and install a wired recessed switch.

I haven't done it, but several people  have, and have posted detailed directions in the forums.  If only there was a search function :-)

Fortunately, the google search using the Site: keyword seems to work fairly well.  make sure the site is simplisafe.com/forum

For instance:  modify simplisafe entry sensor site:simplisafe.com/forum   which gets

Or you can search wider (without the site keyword) and get something like

Okay thanks for your help. Yeah I had already found the instructables site but it didn't seem to be what I was trying to accomplish. I'll read through it again. I wish SS sold wireless recessed sensors like Vivint and some of the other security providers. Thanks again.

kind of hard to "recess" a wireless sensor.  What would be nice would be a transmitter which accepts wired switches, which would open up a whole lot of additional options.

There's a lot of cool things that could be done but a fair number of them have installation or setup that isn't so simple in the context of SimpliSafe's intent. There's always the 1%'ers that are willing to do stuff, but I'd think the core group of customers wants something you take out of the box, plug it in so to speak, and it just works. No drilling, no wires, no scripts to run, no software to mess with, etc., etc.

@whoaru99  I think you make a good point.  Exactly what is it that SimpliSafe is offering that is different from the rest of the security market?   It is the simplicity of installation, and simplicity of use. And perhaps portability as a secondary issue.

This is what attracted me to Simplisafe in the first place.  The feeling that I could secure my home by doing it myself with the skills I already have (nonexistent!).  If SS starts weakening that confidence in the consumer with its EASY installation and operation, what happens to that interesting and large "niche" that SS successfully inhabits?

I can appreciate that once the basic system is installed and running, some users will want more advanced options.  Maybe what is needed is some sort of 'advanced' licensing program where third party manufacturers could license SS software (and/or pay SS to build custom linkage software) to connect their gear to SS.

Designed properly, such a program could allow SS to control their security system's long term development and still provide a pleasant secondary income in licensing and development fees for the shareholders and investors.
