Smoke Detectors Constantly Alarming

I have 2 smoke detectors that lately just want to go off on their own. I'm not happy to read a lot of reviews here and elsewhere that they have experienced the same issues despite keeping the smoke detectors clean, not painted, level, with fresh batteries. Apparently SS wants to blame all the problems on the user.

Going to replace them, but I have a feeling I'm going to have to pay for new ones since they are more than 3 years old and I'll be very unhappy if they are just as bad. Others have indicated they had to replace theirs up to 3 times before it resolved the issue. I'll also not be happy that I can't leave these devices in place and on until I get the new devices because of the continual false alarms, leaving my house unprotected.
