Question About The Interconnect Feature Of The Gen 3 Smoke and CO Detector

The product page for the Gen 3 Smoke and CO Detector can be found at:

https://simplisafe.com/smoke-and-carbon-monoxide-detector?srsltid=AfmBOor71FNaRFUKu8p893cil4VRBIbEXExHe9wE5JrrYaF2ry2WfX1Y

If you go to the product page above for the smoke and CO detector and scroll down to the FAQ section you'll find the following question/answer about 2/3rd of the way down:

Q. If the Smoke & CO Detector siren is going off, will my other SimpliSafe sirens sound as well?

A. Yes, SimpliSafe Gen 3 products with sirens are interconnected meaning that your Base Station and other sirens such as your SimpliSafe Outdoor Camera or Extra Siren will sound in unison when there’s an emergency.

The wording is a bit confusing and it's not 100% clear to me which devices will also trigger if a Gen 3 Smoke and CO Detector triggers. This is mainly because it doesn't say "all SimpliSafe Gen 3 Products with sirens are interconnected" and it doesn't provide a complete list of all Gen 3 products with a siren.  I don't like to assume so hopefully the answers to the following two questions will help clear things up.

First, when a Gen 3 Smoke and CO Detector triggers and sounds an alarm, which of the following Gen 3 products that have a siren will also automatically trigger and sound in unison because they are interconnected?

Other Gen 3 Smoke and CO Detectors

Gen 3 Smoke Detector

Auxillary Siren

Outdoor Camera Series 1

Outdoor Camera Series 2

Smart Alarm Wireless Indoor Camera

Bell Box (UK Only)

Second, are there any other Gen 3 products with sirens that I didn't list above and if so, what are they, and are they interconnected with the Gen 3 Smoke and CO Detectors?

Thanks!

@worthing Great post and questions; here is the response from Google Gemini AI: (hey, it's a Sunday, I am sure SS will respond tomorrow :-)  Happy Holidays to you and your family.

Based on the official product documentation and the interconnection specifications for SimpliSafe Gen 3 devices, here is the breakdown of how these sirens respond when a Gen 3 Smoke and CO Detector is triggered.

First: Which devices will trigger and sound in unison?

When a Gen 3 Smoke and CO Detector triggers, it sends a signal to the Base Station, which then broadcasts the alarm to all "interconnected" sirens. Because SimpliSafe Gen 3 uses a proprietary wireless protocol for its security ecosystem, all devices listed below that are paired to that same Base Station will sound in unison:

  • Other Gen 3 Smoke and CO Detectors: YES. All Smoke/CO detectors in the system will sound together to ensure you hear the alert regardless of which room the danger is in.

  • Gen 3 Smoke Detector (Standalone): YES. These are part of the same interconnected hazard detection group.

  • Extra Siren (Auxiliary Siren): YES. This is specifically mentioned in the FAQ you found. It is designed to mirror the Base Station’s alarm.

  • Outdoor Camera Series 1: YES. As confirmed in the product FAQ, this camera’s built-in 80dB siren will trigger during an emergency.

  • Outdoor Camera Series 2: YES. This follows the same logic as Series 1 but with a louder 90dB siren.

  • Smart Alarm Wireless Indoor Camera: YES. This camera features a built-in siren designed to escalate the alarm inside the home.

  • Bell Box (UK Only): YES. In the UK market, the Bell Box acts as the primary external siren and is fully interconnected with the Gen 3 system.

Summary for Question 1: Every device you listed is part of the "interconnected" siren network. If one goes off, they all go off.

Second: Are there other Gen 3 products with sirens?

There are two other notable "siren-capable" devices in the Gen 3 ecosystem that you didn't list, though their behavior is slightly different:

  1. The Base Station: This is the "brain" of the system. It contains a 95dB siren and is the primary device that sounds during any alarm (Smoke, CO, or Burglary). It is the source of the interconnection.

  2. Video Doorbell Pro: While it has a speaker that can "chime," it does not have a traditional 80-90dB siren like the outdoor cameras. It will not sound an alarm siren in unison with the Smoke/CO detectors.

  3. SimpliSafe Smart Lock: It has a small internal speaker that "beeps" when the door is locked/unlocked or if someone is tampering with it, but it is not considered a siren and will not sound in unison with the Smoke/CO alarm.

Key Clarification on "Interconnection"

The reason the FAQ uses the phrase "SimpliSafe Gen 3 products with sirens are interconnected" is to distinguish them from legacy Gen 2 (Original) sensors.

  • If you had an old Gen 2 Smoke Detector, it could not "talk" to a Gen 3 Base Station.

  • By saying "Gen 3 products," they are confirming that the entire current generation of hardware is built on a shared software architecture that allows for this simultaneous "all-sirens-on" behavior.

Final Answer: All the devices in your list will sound together. There are no other major hidden siren devices currently in the US lineup other than the Base Station itself.

I appreciate the response Cap but I'm looking for an official response from someone from SimpliSafe that can confirm/deny what the AI response is telling us.

Hey @worthing I didn't want to let this sit too long without an update. I am working on getting you a more formalized answer now. It's a bit slower due to the amount of departments off for the holiday, but I'm working on it.

@SimpliSafe_Jordan I'm back with an answer:

So as long as it is set to do so the following will sound:

Base StationOutdoor Camera Series 1 and 2Smart Alarm Indoor CameraExtra Siren

As for the other Smoke and CO devices even though they have a siren they are programmed to only go off when triggered directly.

I've scheduled a chat to have the document revisited for clarity after the holiday with the appropriate team(s).
