Solar Panel charging issues after firmware 1.20

We have received reports that some users are seeing decreased performance of the Solar Panel accessory for the Wireless Outdoor Camera, shortly after (or maybe because of) the update to firmware version 1.20.

Version 1.20 introduces Performance Mode, which keeps your Outdoor Camera active and ready to trigger recordings, as long as it’s plugged into a continuous power source, and the battery level remains above 70%. If the battery goes below that threshold, it will return to the deep sleep mode, so that it can better conserve battery life.

Some of you may be experiencing a symptom of a different issue, which is causing your Outdoor Camera to repeatedly trigger false motion events. As a result, the battery may be draining faster than your Solar Panel is able to charge - giving the impression that it’s not charging at all.

If your Outdoor Camera and Solar Panel are currently situated where sunlight is limited, it might help (if it’s possible) to temporarily reposition the Solar Panel for longer exposure - to increase the amount of charge they can collect. Or you may want to consider using a Power Adapter accessory, which can provide constant power even at night.

Our engineering team continues work on resolving the false motion event issue, and we’re aiming to roll out a fix soon. Please follow the other thread for updates.

This one is before my time @worthing but I'm happy to check. I know it's not related to the most recent reddit posts however.

@SimpliSafe_Jordan update the exact ticket for this case was fixed and labeled finalized in March 2024.

I would consider the main point of that post to be the introduction of performance mode. The battery draining to 70% while on a solar panel is expected and is just a trade off of performance mode and it'll exit performance mode and then charge back up to 90% before entering performance mode again.
