Alexa Routines

I haven't seen this posted, but I see ADT Pulse, Ring, and others are integrated with Alexa routines. How long until SimpliSafe is included? I'd love to tell alexa "Goodnight' and Simplisafe arms into home mode as my lights turn off and doors lock. Any word on if this is close?

At this time, if you have Interactive Monitoring subscribed, you are already able to add arming of your SimpliSafe system as part of both an Alexa or Google Assistant Routine.

@davey_d this is not true. When you use the Alexa skill with the routine it uses “SimpliSafe Home Control” where you have to go through a bunch of dialog until it asks you if you want to arm the system. People want to be able to setup a routine, for example, where they say “goodnight” and it immediately arms their system as well as turns off their lights, etc. it’s shocking to me google home has this feature from what it sounds like and 5 years after this thread was started, us Alexa users still don’t have it.

@jswaney, if you have SS3, Amazon Echo integration was done much earlier this year. As far as a door lock, SS said they will be coming out with one.

Yep, I do have SS3 and the Alexa skill. Doesn't allow you to include SimpliSafe as a part of a routine though. If you go to Routines within Alexa, you'll see home security is one of the categories. But SimpliSafe isn't an option to include as a part of a routine.

@ jswaney , sorry, couldn't tell from your post the system you had. Yes, agree completely, "integration" is very light and have posted, sent emails to SS etc that Routines be added.  Have six and growing number of lights, inside and out, that I have Echo scenes for and would love to connect to Simplisafe for alarm conditions.  And more.

Glad I'm not the only one! Have you gotten any positive feedback in your interactions with SS customer support?

Needs to be able to be used in Alexa routines.  Works fine with Google Home routines.

@ keropi, please confirm, you can use Google home assistant beyond just turning the alarm on? For example, I want to have my Echo lighting group of six lights turn on if there is an alarm state, in and out of the house.

So do I. I tried to do an applet in IFTTT, but that doesn't send instructions TOO Alexa, it will only receive instructions FROM Alexa.

I'd love to have as many lights as possible come blazing on if the alarm gets triggered!

Having said that, I appreciate that SS seems to be cautious in its approach with the echo. SS communications are highly encrypted and secure. I don't get that impression with the echo.

Captain11,

I use Google Home integration with Smplisafe in the following ways:

1.)  When I say "I'm leaving", Google Home turns the lights off, turns the heat down, and sets Simplisafe to Away mode.
2.)  When I say "Good night", I have it do essentially the same thing, but with somewhat different lights and different temp, and Simplisafe gets set to Home mode.

This is not possible with Alexa routines (I have both Google Home and Alexa).

I have not tried to have Google home turn on lights during an alarm state.  Good idea, but not sure how I would go about setting that up...

@keropi, thank you for your reply.  I would like to have my Echo just turn on my light group, and believe, eventually, SS will get around to it. Again, appreciate the information.

Just upgraded my previous SS model to the newest to integrate with Alexa Echo and surprised to see it could not be added to a routine.  Development Team needs to work on this function.

SimpliSafe needs to be an Alexa recognized device and support Alexa Routines.  I just upgraded 39 sensors to SS3 and the best I can do with Alexa is less than my key fob in my pocket. Absolutely ridiculous that SimpliSafe is still doing just the bare minimum to get by with. I asked for IFTTT integration in June 2014, almost 5 years ago and still nothing. SimpliSafe supporting Alexa Routines could change Hue Light Colors with an alarm negating the need for IFTTT.

I will not upgrade or expand this system every again if SimpliSafe doesn't start leading in this field. We're literally waiting to follow (think about that, waiting to follow) the Home Security industry. Sad, zero innovation since their introduction.

@ack0605  I have talked to customer service  about SS working with Alexa- they told me it is not in the cards. Also I have delayed recordings. I am shopping for a new system because of all.of this nonsense.

We also have been watching and waiting and have since installed 146 other customers with other companies systems because Simplisafe lacks Routines support.

STILL WAITING for this, 2FA, and multiple user accounts.

@MotorSTLN, correct me if I am wrong, but I believe you are saying you are a security system dealer? If so hardly a non biased source.

@MotorSTLN, what systems is/are "better" than SS, despite it lacking these minor functions?  Note that "better" for a SECURITY system means more secure and/or more reliable, or equally secure and reliable at a lower cost.

Whether or not a SECURITY system has "routines support" has no bearing on "better".  2FA might have a bearing on "better", since that actually has something to do with security.

I tell Alexa "good night" and it turns off my TV cubes and all the lights in my home. It's a routine.    I would like it so that I can add simplisafe to the routine and it arms into home mode when I say "Good night".    I would also like simplisafe to have the ability to arm automatically as previously asked for by others.  Would be nice to just set a routine to arm into home mode at 11 PM every night.

As of now, I have to tell Alexa to tell simplisafe to go into away mode and then I get asked if that's what I want.  Too many steps.

@ ntfa, with my own ecobee4 thermostat, one echo and two dots, I don't mind the extra steps that SS put in as Alexa sometimes, maybe a lot, misunderstands what you tell her to do.  That aside, scenes would be very useful, especially turning on my outside and inside lights.  In my ideal use, all of the lights would go on if an alarm goes off. Not too ambitious but every important, and effective, in my humble opinion.

As myriad others have pointed out: it would be nice to tell Alexa "Time For Bed" and the SS system would arm in HOME mode (or other mode determined by a setting) - also ensuring our integrated August Lock would confirm its status, as the lock is tied to SS.

I suspect this is a security concern or an Alexa API access issue, but this should be a high priority item as the whole point of home automation is to simplify the process of whatever you're trying to do: the fewer steps the better!

And add ability to turn on light group if alarm condition exists.

I"m surprised alexa can't handle this. The google integration is a joke that only accepts two comments (arm simplisafe away/arm simplisafe home) but I can drop those commands into routines no problem.

I have a routine where when I say, 'Okay Google, I surrender" is closed my blinds, arms simplisafe in home, sets my phone to do not disturb, and turns off all my lights.

Can't believe still waiting for Simplisafe to simply update their Alexa skill to make our lives more simplistic. But from other community posts, this has been over 3 years since people have asked for this.

Can you have routines with Alexa with SimpliSafe

Not really.  You can add SS to your routine, but all it's going to do is trigger it to open and you'll still have to tell Alexa to arm the system separately and after the routine.  I'm hoping eventually we can at the very least arm in home or away with a routine at some point.  I doubt you'll ever be able to disable the alarm via Alexa, but IMO that would be a very good thing.

@Simplisafe: I thought I would try a simpler approach (pun not intended).

Current status:

SS3 enters alarm condition from home mode.  I wake up and say "Alexa, turn on the house lights!".  Nine IoT lights inside and outside of my home go on.

SS3 enters alarm condition from Away Mode. Push notification from app. I open my Echo app and say "Alexa, turn on house lights!".

Pretty simple, but yet manual.

In the near future:

Develop and sell a Gucci, deluxe encrypted SS hub with a large, healthy profit margin to connect to my IoT devices (one way by the way), you make your investors happy and customers happy. Win/win.
