CONSTANT video static sound?!?!

We hear this obnoxious sound through all cameras while watching cameras live. Unsure about recorded. But it’s not a sound in my home. We’re not physically close to any cameras or interfering in any way. All animals are locked up- there is no noise like this anywhere for the cameras … It’s a constant and SO loud and distracting. How do we get it to stop?!?! Otherwise I’m returning my system- this is ridiculous and extremely frustrating.

Camera Feedback Noise

Hi @rochedanielle36 ,

We've heard of feedback being an issue before (especially if you have your phone close to the camera while you're streaming). Or it could be that the camera is picking up on noise that is normally inaudible to humans.

But just in case it's something else, are you comfortable with sharing a recording here?

I have 3 indoor cameras also and all 3 are making this awful ticking+static noise during live view.  Any solutions to this yet?  I’m going to guess that there’s a design flaw with microphone placement and the privacy shutter mechanism.  You can’t fix a bad physical design with software update.

@merlinair  I'll ask the same question that I also asked @rochedanielle36.

A recording would be really helpful for our engineering team to figure out what the noise is.

Also, is it only happening in live view? Or do you hear the same noise from recordings?

@davey_d the recording submitted by @worthing is the exact sound and problem I have an all 3 cameras.  Night/day/ morning/twilight, etc, etc.  And yes,  it is only during live view because that is all I have.  I do not have the recording subscription.

Here's a recording from one of my Simplicams set to 1080p with night vision set to OFF. I hear this noise in live view and in the recordings and I've moved the camera from the garage to interior rooms and I always get that noise. Please note that when I have night vision set to ON or AUTO (and it's dark and it's on) the ticking/static gets faster. I can reproduce this 100% of the time.

@worthing thank you! This is great. Sent it over to our camera QA team.

Have y'all considered a bug / error bounty system where users can report bugs in exchange for say, free subscription time? I'd be very interested in such a system and I bet it would get your userbase engaged in helping y'all iron out the kinks in your products and services. Oh and maybe extend this to pointing out incorrect / out of date documentation as well? Or, as I've said before, I am available for reasonable rates to improve your documentation for you. :)

@worthing definitely considered. It's a good thing to incorporate into my expanding efforts to care for superusers like yourself.

@worthing I like this idea, I'd participate.

@worthing nothing yet, though our folks are getting close to figuring it out.

Any update from your folks that are “close” to figuring it out? Or just lies?

@billyjelenic12 I sincerely apologize, but we have no further update on this issue at this time.

We experience same annoying sound (as previous user posted in video) in our indoor cams when we view them live.

Same issue here. Brand new system I unboxed today. This is disappointing. Any update? @davey_d

They were "close to figuring it out" 2+ months ago. Can we get an update on this please?

I just set up a brand new system yesterday and the feedback I was getting was constant and repeatable. It was so annoying, I finally deleted the indoor camera and removed it from my system. I actually have 2 wired Nest cameras in the same area, not close enough for feedback, that have been there for years and never had a problem. This has to be a SimplSafe problem.

I had one further problem with the same camera. Not only was there a feedback problem, the entire picture was infared/night mode even though there was plenty of light in the room and night mode was set to 'AUTO". It should have given me a full color picture, but it was totally washed out. I plugged and unplugged the camera several times, but it made no difference to either condition

Full system set up and having this same static sound issue in my camera. Any updates?

I'm having similar sounds on the indoor camera I installed today. It's the only camera we currently have as well.

I have a Gateway that I turned off DHCP server and Routing functions so it's just an AP, and it's about 4-6 feet from the camera. The room has no other running hardware in it and my fan is off, yet I get a static/clicking sound. When I put my head up to the AP, I heard a static sound that sounded similar. Maybe the mic really is picking up sounds that are usually inaudible to humans and amplifying it?

@custommounting our current understanding is that the issue is with the camera's own hardware - though it doesn't seem to affect all units. The investigation is ongoing.

However, it's definitely not a problem with your setup or network settings.

We'll keep you updated when our engineering team has more info.

Also the same issue. Probably going to buy a Cove system cause I can't find anything about them having this issue, but I've seen multiple threads that I'm not the only one with this issue on my system. It makes the audio essentially worthless when checking in. Ring doesn't have this issue either for my home security. What are we paying for if they can't fix this issue after 3+ months?

I have the same issue, I have 2 outdoor cameras and 2 indoor. Same issue on all 4. I have invested a considerable amount of money in this system, with sensors on every door and window plus motion sensors as well.  Is there anything you can tell us from the company perspective as to why thousands of customers should continue to wait and hope that SimpliSafe will actually have a solution for us that won't require us to purchase more new hardware? I would love to hear something like "we hope to have a solution by xx/xx/xxxx, and if we can't fix it and give you a reliable product we will compensate you by ......"  Anything to let us know your serious about fixing such a huge problem with your equipment?
