Is it normal for your system to be armed in the "away" with an entry door open?

My entry door was left open and I was able to arm my system? Yes, I did get a warning on my key pad and a verbal warning from my base station, but was still able to arm and leave with the door open?? My entry sensor batter has been changed and it does work properly otherwise.
