The Wireless Outdoor Camera integrates more closely with the Gen 3 SimpliSafe alarm system. It's even added to the system like any other component. This enables a much easier setup process, and also features like a built-in 80dB siren (so it can act like a Wireless Siren during alarms). Since the Original system uses a completely different method of wireless communication, that same integration isn't possible. So yes, the Outdoor Camera is compatible with the Gen 3 system only
Just to clarify though - we're not just offering 50% off the Outdoor Camera. That would be 50% off an entire system, with any number of sensors. We no longer even need a trade-in!

I believe simplistuckon is asking if the camera will work with Gen 2 systems.
I'm in the same boat, happy with my Gen2 system and not ready to spend hundreds to upgrade. 50% off isn't enough to get me to replace a 100% working system. If it aint broke....

I hit send a little too early. I completed my above paragraph. But to reiterate, yes, the Wireless Outdoor Camera requires a Gen 3 system.

You'd want to give our Support team a call at 800-548-9508 and they'll take care of you. But if you're worried, we do have a Permanent Mount that will be available soon.

What does this mean? In the other thread where I asked this same question you replied with:
I think it's reasonable to infer from your response in this thread that the camera would be replaced which is different than your earlier response. Can you please clarify? Is it still at the discretion of who we talk to when we call or is there now an official policy?

It's dependent on the situation. The priority is in helping the customer get back to feeling safe in their own home, which can sometimes mean sending replacement equipment.
