Why won't it align?
After spending several hundred dollars with Simplisafe-- and loving all the other products-- I'm extremely frustrated with the Smart Lock. I tried installing it with our old Kiwkset single cylinder lock (Deadbolt #1), but the old lock was keyed on both sides of the door, so the tailpiece assembly was too long to accommodate the Simplisafe lock. So I bought Kwikset Deadbolt # 2 (keyed on one side of the door). The tailpiece and thumb turn-- with the red adapter to go with the D-shaped tailpiece-- did not line up. (see photos) The adapter on the tail piece was at 4 o'clock, the Simplisafe thumb turn socket was at about 2 o'clock. After spending close to an hour on TWO different calls with SimpliSafe customer service, the last lady I talked to suggested getting yet another new deadbolt. So I went to an actual locksmith, described the problem, showed him the photos and got Deadbolt #3. Exact same problem. The thumb turn needs to turn another few degrees to align with the tailpiece and adapter. The last person I spoke to in Customer Service suggested I call a SimpliSafe technician to come look at it at MY expense. Ummm... no. What the heck, guys? What deadbolt will your product work with? Seems like you should know this.

Call support but I believe (guess on my part) the dead bolt has to be a single cylinder. My apologies on the guess but support will know for sure. My doorlock works fine but was a Schlage single cylinder.

Thanks for responding! It IS a single cylinder-- all three have been. But they've all been Kwikset. I wonder if Schlage would be any different... running out of patience, though. Not sure I have it in me to try a FOURTH deadbolt. ;-(
