Secret Alert with Chime

I've found I cannot have my cake and eat it too apparently. I like the secret alert push notification to my when when an entry sensor is triggered. I'd also like for the base station to chime as well. Base station will chime when silent alert is disabled on a sensor (i.e. front door). When silent alert is enabled, the base station does not chime - I'd like both.

I recently got the Simplisafe system and have a question related to the notifications sent when the sensors are triggered.

From what I understand and have tested so far:
1) The Secret Alert mode in the Simplisafe system allows you to get an email, push, or SMS notifications if a sensor is triggered but doesn't sound the alarm.
2) Alarm mode for a sensor sends you a notification when an alarm is triggered but doesn't send a notification as soon as the sensor is triggered for that alarm (which means there is a 30-second delay or however much you configure in the app between a sensor is tripped and the notification is sent unless instant alarm option is set).

Is there a configuration I can choose which sends a notification as soon as the sensor is triggered and also sounds the alarm?

Hi @ashutosh19993,

At this time, the ability to essentially receive the Secret Alert as well as trigger the alarm system is not an option. We've made sure to send this suggestion to our development team, but in the meantime, it may be helpful for you to set some of your sensors to Instant Trigger. Turning on this feature is useful for certain sensors that you want to skip the Entry Delay. As such, we don't recommend using this feature on primary entrance doors unless you always disarm your system with a Keyfob or the SimpliSafe app before entering your home.

Just wanted to log in and leave a comment that I also think this feature that Asutosh mentions is what I'd llike to see as well. Getting a push notification whenever the sensor is triggered in Alarm mode would be really helpful so that if I'm in a far corner of my house I'm notified that I need to go disarm the system before the alarm is set off.
Please seriously consider the feature of adding the push notifications for this

Thanks for the suggestion! As the name implies, Secret Alerts really are meant to be secret - which is why the Door Chime is disabled at that time.

So what you're asking for is a non-secret alert in Off Mode. I'll pass that on to our devs.

@davey_d I also would love this feature

@davey_d Same here, Davey, this is what I've run into recently and probably what occurred on that other post I had inquired about. Just an option would be great.

@davey_d I’m returning our system solely due to this issue.

@davey_d here’s a simple use case: I don’t want the alarm set at midnight if my 18 year old son is still out with friends. But, I do want  to know if/when someone enters the house. The beep wakes me up which is good because I want to know if someone enters or leaves the house after midnight and a txt msg won’t wake me up. Once I’m awake, I want to check the alert for more detail. Which door was opened?  My son always uses the front door. If someone entered the basement door, we have an intruder. I understand why someone might want a silent alert, but I think the beep + alert is the more common scenario. Please add this to the roadmap!

I appreciate the support Davey. You are correct, an option to enable push notifications to my phone for triggered sensors and door chime from the base station is what I'm looking for. :)

I would really love the option to have a push notification and a chime from base station at the same time.

This is really useful for when Im out and can see sensors being trigger but also if my wife is home she is alerted if she is moving around the house without the need of her phone.

Also very helpful if a babysitter is home and she can hear sensor triggers but we have push notification when we are out.

Thank you.

I ran into this recently and would love this functionality. It would be greatly helpful (just having that option of settings alone).

plus one on having the audible chime and secret mode for when I'm away and family is home.

This would be really great, because I love having the notification of the door opening when I’m not home, but want to hear the chime when I’m at home (because I don’t always have my phone immediately on hand) without having to switch the settings constantly. Please add this feature! :)

Agreed.  I like the notifications on my phone but my wife and family would like the base unit to chime.

Testing out a paid plan but don't think I'll keep it because it doesn't offer what I want.

When the system is set as "Off" I want to both get an alert on my phone and still have a chime sound.

When I'm home I want people who enter to hear the chime - but I also want a notification on my phone in case I'm out of audible range of the chime.

I understand the purpose of "secret alert" and think there are good applications for that - but there needs to be an "chime alert" option as well.

This would also be useful if you forget to arm your system and leave the property. A person entering would hear the chime and know they were being monitored and I would get a phone alert letting me know to check in/set my alarm.

Seems like a fairly easy function to add.

Just posted a similar message before finding this thread. Hoping the dev teams would have an update here as it's been 7+ months since first suggested.

You're not always in earshot of the chime so would be great get an alert at the same time. Plus if you leave your home and forget to arm your system, anyone who enters would still hear the chime and you'd get an alert on your phone to check-in and/or arm your system.

Most other security systems have this ability - and since since SimpliSafe has both here, seems like it'd be easy to just create a "Chime Alert" option in addition to the "Silent Alert".

I just spent a good amount of time on tech support attempting to verify/understand this lack of capability as well.    I want to arm in HOME mode - e.g. to protect my street side doors and windows while in the house -- but need the chime active (along with SMS or notification alerts in case I'm out of earshot of the base station) in case a grandchild goes out a rear patio door toward the pool.   Also helps me know someone is through a door or window that's not currently alarmed while I'm at HOME in HOME mode.       Works perfectly if I leave the alarm OFF, but goes silent if I put the alarm in HOME.   Huh?    What logic is that?   They recommended alarming everything which is a silly option when there are people in and out of the rear patio.      Ugh.

@brucemid15 It sounds like what you're looking for is Zoning - that is, having different Entry Sensors armed while others are not. But our system unfortunately doesn't work in that way. When you set your system to Home or Away, all sensors are armed. And all the Secret Alert setting does is to change whether or not triggering a sensor while the system is armed will generate an actual alarm.

@davey_d

Hey Davey,

That is not my experience at all.   I custom set every sensor - many differently - in HOME vs AWAY vs OFF mode.   I's a favorite feature for me.  I guess you might call that zoning since for me - for HOME mode I disable or just use alerts for areas where I spend time (with my big dog) but enable sensors and alerts where occupancy or activity is limited.    After reading others' comments on the same wishes it would seem the simplest solution is to simply allow chimes and alerts to be enabled or disabled for sensors in any mode.

Cheers!

@brucemid15 ah, so what you're asking is to be able to have the sensor set to alert AND generate a chime at the same time.

The feature is currently called Secret Alert, because it's intended to be a secret. That is, if someone opens that door or window, they would potentially not know that anything had been triggered. The scenario our engineers were thinking about would be for keeping kids out of gun safes or liquor cabinets.

But yes, you're not the first to suggest that it should be possible to have the Alert be a separate setting from the chime. Check out the suggestion thread here.

@davey_d can you please provide an update on this? If this is not being updated I need to return my system. This is such a basic functionality of almost any alarm system..

Each sensor should have the option to activate/ deactivate any of the following for each mode:

• Base Station Chime

• Push Notification

• Trigger Alarm (instant or delayed)

This whole secret alert thing seems so specific.. why not just let users choose how they are notified about sensor activity?

I'd also like to add my voice to this.  I'd like to be able to set a device in Home Mode to be a "Chime Alert" instead of "Alarm" or "Secret Alert".

@davey_d Any input?  Maybe a timeline?  Seems like this would be a simple add and has a lot of support here.

Unfortunately no, the status of this request is that it is not yet in development. I'll let you know when I hear more.
