Gas Leak Detector

I am trying to see if there is any others interested in a new ssensor. I live in an older peer and beam house with natural gas. I would like a sensor that would integrate into my existing simplisafe system that would alarm in case of a gas leak. In the event of a gas leak, the alarm could wake you at night or notify you in the day. This could save life and property. Anybody else have natural gas and like to see this product?

I agree. I would buy an integrated natural gas/propane detector.

Seriously! I would PRE-pay Simplisafe a ridiculous amount of money for a remote propane/natural gas sensor!!!

I've contacted them with this suggestion too, but I've seen other people ask SimpliSafe and other similar companies about it. I've also noticed that no other company has this, and there is no other product like this out there that you can monitor from your phone that doesn't depend on wifi, even with payment-- the only remote monitoring options for this are 12V battery wired or AC power, and also *require* wifi. Alternatively, most of SimpliSafe's sensor devices can be used on cellular with monitoring, and are powered by their own batteries.

I went with SimpliSafe because while other companies also had remote smoke/CO sensors, they didn't also have the customizable temperature sensor like SimpliSafe does. The propane/natural gas sensor would be the icing on the cake for me with this company, on top of them already sending me extra backup batteries!

Is anyone else interested in this option as well? Has anyone heard from SimpliSafe whether they are working on this?

I'd love to see this in the line up

Here in Illinois the government is working on a bill to mandate gas leak detectors in homes. In the state there have been several house explosions and that is driving the bill.

I would definitely add gas leak detectors to my system. It is fine to just have an alarm if someone is home. I believe it is more important to alert the monitoring service when no one is home.

@Haswemi I support your comment. But if there are alot of home explosions, the state should realy look into why it's such a high issue. House explosions is not rare accordance. So if something that"s a rare occurrence is common, there is a more important issue at hand. Perhaps they need to mandate free anual inspections where these seem to be happening and give fines to those not up to code (likely these are homeowner repairs that they have no idea what they are doing. However if it's a technition/installer issue, that needs to be addressed and new laws and penalties put into play. Peoples safety is no joke.

I'd certainly like to see an LP / Natural Gas detector in SimpliSafe's lineup.  I can't understand why they don't have one, as virtually everyone would want one.

Given that I just read today of a house that blew up because of a gas leak, this is something I wish SimpliSafe had.

I would buy a couple of these sensors in a heartbeat.

I would absolutely add gas detection sensors to our existing system.

I agree. I’m hard of hearing especially when I am sleeping and do not have my hearing aids in. I live alone in a large ranch style home. My furnace and hot water heater are on the far end of the house in a partial basement. If I had a gas leak detector that was part of the SimpliSafe system, I know I would receive a phone call if the alarm went off. There was a house explosion in my area recently where a couple lost their lives. If they would have had a gas leak detector, they possibly would’ve had time to get out.

It would be nice for SS to develop a gas detector.  I'd take it a little further and integrate a solenoid actuated shut-off valve at the regulator or meter when detector activates.

I know this is an old thread but I think this is a great idea for total home protection. Its the only major sensor that is missing.

@SimpliSafe:  This is just one of many private labeling opportunities SS can do to increase customer goodwill and profits.

Win.win. WIFI water shutoff valves, gas sensors, electrical AC monitor (Ting), Garage Door openers, the list just keeps going on.

Great idea for safety! Gas leak detection is crucial in older homes with natural gas. While I'm not sure about SimpliSafe integration, I'd recommend checking out the Forensics Detectors Gas Leak Detector - it has a Japanese FIGARO sensor calibrated for methane with adjustable sound, light, and vibration alarms loud enough to wake you at night. It's built tough with a 5-year sensor life and detects natural gas, propane, and other combustible gases. Even without direct system integration, having a dedicated gas detector near your appliances and sleeping areas gives you that critical early warning protection you're looking for!

I would love to see you guys come out with a natural gas or propane gas detector I personally need a propane one either probably would work for either depending on where you mount it

Please develop a propane gas leak detector.  In Mammoth Lakes, CA every home runs on propane and several homes have blown up over the years due to leaks in the propane systems from snow weight.  There is a massive need for a remote monitored system in this area, and it is my understanding is or is going to be a new building code to require this.
