Self monitoring Gen 2 system still possible?

Now everything is locked on my dashboard except my timeline. I have no control over any part of the system except what I can do on the keypad (which isn't much). Too unlock I'll have to pay for monitoring. I guess Dave Ramsey lied to me.

Self monitoring is you or someone else in earshot of the siren in the base, or the external/add-on siren, hearing it go off.

"Remote control", notifications, etc., via the smartphone app are an entirely different matter.

I have the Gen 2 system (for many years now) and do not recall ever having a self monitoring ability without at least the basic monitoring plan.  Without the network connection with the monitoring plan, you just have local siren/base station notification, as whoaru99 discussed.  I don't recall it ever being any different.  Dave Ramsey did not lie, there is just some misunderstanding.

Self-monitoring is just listening for the local siren. Everyone has the ability to self-monitor, you just don't subscribe to a monitoring plan (and probably need to contact SS to have them disable the base's search for connection to monitoring service).

Any paid plan is not self-monitoring.

I have gen 3 system and having the same issues, I should be able to controls basic features w/o subscription but I still can't. Something is wrong here.

@ss1195

I'd suggest starting a new thread for your SS3 question regarding connectivity and control.

This thread is about SS2 which does not have WiFi so without some sort of subscription the app can only work with the cameras, since the cameras connect by WiFi irrespective of the SS2 system having no WiFi capability.

SS2 does no longer work with the iMac PC Big Sur version. Cannot use the SS2 software to make any changes

@harveyvicky2006  If you are talking about Adobe Flash Player being discontinued in your browser, I found a workaround for my SS2 system.  I downloaded "Flash Player projector content debugger" from the Adobe website (Mac version available too).  It opens a popup window where you can then open the .swf file from your keychain.  I was able to open the wizard and view my settings on my keychain just like I used to in a web browser.
