Self Monitoring Options

Hello all,

I only want to use the self monitoring option. I have WiFi but I do not have a cellular data plan. Do I need a data plan if I want to use the cellular option? Is the cellular option only used with a paid support plan? If I lose WiFi, will I lose my alarm system?

Thank you,

Gus

Hi @gusimio,

A cellular data plan is not required to utilize the Base Station's cellular backup. However, you do need to be subscribed to either the $17.99 Standard Monitoring Plan or the $27.99 Interactive Monitoring Plan to use cellular. With the $9.99 Self-Monitoring with Camera Recordings Plan or Basic App Control, cellular backup is not included. If WiFi goes out the cameras will be inactive, but your Entry, Motion, and Glassbreak Sensors will still be able to communicate to the Base Station and sound an alarm if triggered.

On the self monitoring with camera plan, if the wi-fi is down and someone breaks into the house - nothing happens?  I understand the cameras are on wi-fi, but every sensor is disabled?  No siren, no nothing?  I was under the impression the other devices were on RF and the "alarm system" would at least sound a siren.  This is disturbing.

Hi @Tomba,

It seems I had a mis-type in my initial response, thank you for flagging this! When WiFi is out, cameras will be inactive. However, sensors do communicate to the Base Station via radio; so if they are triggered an alarm will sound. I have edited my first response to fix this error.
