Random Chime

We are having the same issue, random chimes at random times.  Has anyone found a fix?

Simplisafe support has no idea and cannot help.

We are ready to throw it and $500 away after only 30 days..

@jericbarg,

The only chiming noise from the Base Station happens when an Entry Sensor is opened or a Video Doorbell is rung. Could that be it?

If that’s not it, do you have any speakers near your Base Station? Sometimes when a signal comes in and a speaker picks up on it, it can emit a sound. If that’s the case, I would recommend moving your Base Station to a different spot.

This happened to my system several months ago. I did the recommmended unplug the system and replace the batterries but to no avail. Could it be a software problem? I noticed this not long after I downloaded an upgrade.

@michael2604 That chime you heard, was it a 3-note sound similar to when an Entry Sensor is opened? If it was, then you heard the Base Station's Trouble Signal.

The Trouble Signal sounds to alert you to a potential issue with your system - like if a sensor is offline or there's a No Link to Dispatcher error. When the Trouble Signal goes off, you'll also see a <!> notification on your Keypad telling you what the problem is. Once that problem is resolved, the Trouble Signal will stop. You can learn more about the Trouble Signal over in this Help Center article.

Random 3 note chime and light blinks in tune.    Happens late at night while system is armed.   Just happened again @ 2 am.   Now the entire family is awake.     No error message, app states everything is okay.

To note.   Entry chime and base station light has always been turned off in the app.

It happened again last night at 3:15am.

Wife unplugged the base station and threw it out the back door.

All total $615 down the drain and 8 early morning wake up chimes.

So many people having this issue with no fix or explanation.

Hi @jericbarg ,

We're really sorry about the frustration you've been through in attempting to figure this out. We forgot to mention that there are actually two chime tones that can come from the Base Station - the chirp from opening an Entry Sensor, and the dinging from when a Video Doorbell Pro's button is pressed. However, both of these sounds are two-note, and not the three-note that you describe.

You mention that your wife has already attempted to shut down the Base Station. Of course, it does have a built-in battery, so you'd need to unscrew the security screw, twist off the bottom panel, and take out at least one battery, to shut it down completely. Or it may have actually already run out of battery power by now.

But I'm curious if you still hear the notification while the Base Station is shut down - which would of course imply that it's a different device making the sound.

Same issue. Random beeping middle of night. 1am, then 1:30am, then 2am. No notifications of any kind on keypad or in timeline. I had to unplug thebase station and remove batteries so family can actually sleep. Without question it is the simplisafe base station - held it in my hands while it beeped loudly in my face. I have a video on my phone if it would help.

If we can't get this fixed, we will be canceling our service immediately. As it stands, the system is unusable. We've had it for years and never had this issue.

@brich3 I'll DM you; you can send your video there!

Was this ever resolved? Same thing started happening to us tonight and woke up the entire house. So frustrating!!

@victoriafarren could you be hearing the 3-tone Trouble Signal? It warns of critical issues with your system, e.g. if a sensor is unresponsive, or there might be an issue with your Base Station's batteries. You can read more about how to resolve here.

This issue is happening  to me as well. However, it’s a single random chime-beep. All entry sensors are closed. No notification on timeline for ANY activity. Only one camera is hooked up and no notifications for that camera. Base station and light are “off” in the app AND volume is off. Between your products only being on Eastern time and this issue, I’m ready to throw mine out as well. I bought this for peace of mind. Waking up at random hours on high alert is NOT peace of mind.

@AcheNatfortress Since your Base Station's volume is off, would it be possible to take a video of this sound and post it here in the Community? That could help us pin down what this sound could be.

Regarding your system's time zone, it should automatically sync up with the time zone where you are located. However you can manually change this in the web app by taking these steps:

  1. Head over to webapp.simplisafe.com and log into your account.
  2. On the navigation bar on the left side of the screen, select "Monitoring".
  3. Under "Monitored Address", there will be a section at the bottom titled "Time Zone".
  4. Click the drop down menu to select your time zone. Then, click "Save" to lock in this update.

Thank you for the clear instructions for fixing my time zone issue. That worked. I have a different and more significant issue now. Three or four cameras keep going offline and won’t reconnect, despite buying a WiFi range extender. I have other cameras installed, by a different security company brand, in the same general areas, and those are working fine. Even my free SimpliSafe indoor camera, plugged into the wall, 2.5 feet from the base station will not come online, but the shutter activates randomly. I’m getting frustrated with all the hiccups and challenges with this system. I wasn’t fond of ADT, but at least the equipment worked properly.

@AcheNatfortress Have you already tried resetting these cameras to see if that will force them to reconnect to your network? To do this, press and hold the pairing button on the back of the Outdoor Camera, or on top of the SimpliCam, for 30 seconds. Once you release the button, you'll be prompted to reinstall these cameras in the SimpliSafe mobile app.

@AcheNatfortress I found range extenders not to work, so went with a Mesh system which does.

Like others, this issue is happening  to me as well. It’s a single random chime-beep every 10 secs or so. All entry sensors are closed. No notification on timeline for ANY activity and no errors or notifications. Only one indoor camera is hooked up and no notifications for that camera. Woke us up at 2:30 am ET this morning.  I got it to turn off by displaying the camera feed live and it stopped.

@coco_valentino If you hear this sound again, would you be able to take a video and comment it here—or send it to be via the Community's private messaging feature? Since you did not have any Entry Sensors open at that time, and there were no errors or notifications for your system, hearing that sound could help us pin down what the problem is.

Having the same issue here...I don't know how many chimes, but it's always in the middle of the bed, always jolts us from sleep, and never any indication of an issue in the system!  The chimes stop on their own and are always stopped before I'm even fully out of bed.   This is ridiculous and the app should give customers more insight to ALL events, even errors!  We've had our system two weeks with two middle of the night scares now.

@JustJ Trouble Signal errors are currently only found on the Keypad to comply with UL-985, but we did send a request to our dev team to consider showing these errors in the mobile app as well. When we hear back from them, we'll provide an update here.

You can turn off the Trouble Signal's volume in the Keypad by going to Menu > System Settings > Trouble Signal. This way the Base Station won't sound, but there will still be a notification on your Keypad alerting you if there is a problem with the system.

Having the same issue of trouble signal going off in the middle of the night waking everyone. Currently happening right now. I also checked and my time zone is correct. Is there a way to turn this off from the app on my phone instead of walking all the way to the keypad?

@MeVo unfortunately no. The only way to disable the Trouble Signal is via the Keypad.

But keep in mind that the Trouble Signal is warning of a critical issue for your system, which would also be displayed in the SimpliSafe app - like a battery or signal issue. So we strongly suggest troubleshooting whatever that issue is, ASAP.

A random chime just went off from seemingly my doorbell? No alerts in the app, no camera activity, no one at the door. System was disarmed at the time. It scared me a little so I decided to arm it in “home” and it gave me a notification saying the base station was in the process of installing an update …so maybe it chimed to notify me that it was updating? I’ve never heard it do this before, but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t done it before when installing an update. Just to be clear, for me, it was just 1 single chime. Not a cluster of back to back chimes nor an ongoing sequence of single chimes. It was just one and done. Base station didn’t make any noise, only the doorbell.

@marshaesmith Your devices shouldn't make any sound when a firmware update is being installed. Are you sure it came from your Video Doorbell? If we were able to get a recording of the sound, that could help us identify what it was.
