Keypad lights up for no apparent reason

I thought the keypad only lights up if you touch it.

I don't mean while setting or disabling the alarm.

I mean that on occasion when I look at the keypad from a distance in another room, I see that it is back-lit.  As if I had been standing next to it and touched it in order to light it.

After a while it goes out.

Why?

Ghosts?

I will definitely call. However, if they don't respond to "individual problems" what do they respond to? Based on this string of comments, it's not "individual"...

It's hard to say what their criteria for answering is.  And whatever it is, it tends to change every once and a while.

I have experienced the same thing! I just installed a keypad by my bedroom exit. Around 12:30 to 2 am the keypad kept lighting up every 10 to 20 seconds for about 30 minutes! It was driving me crazy because the room was dark and I was trying to sleep.

This is the first time I've had anything like this happen. I've had my Simplisafe security system for a year now, and I've had 2 keypads that never gave me any trouble. They were on point every time.

So this behavior is very odd. Again, the bedroom was completely dark, the ceiling fan was going, and the drapes were pulled, so there were no street car lights or tree limbs that could have made shadows appear or disappear. And there's no wiring in that exterior wall either.

I would love some answers.

My only thought is that maybe someone is trying to remote into my system? I realize it does operate off of radio frequencies that are federally protected. But criminals can crack those if they want.

Just a thought. Very disturbing, especially given that it's happening after midnight!

This is happening to my keypad as well. I never had many issues with the old SS2 keypad other than the buttons wouldn't work 100% of the time. Every now and then you would push the button to arm it (SS2) but it wouldn't do anything and you would have to push it again. I put my new SS3 keypad in the same location as the old SS2 and it is lighting up randomly without anyone being near it. I am concerned about battery life too. I will try putting it on Power Saver mode and hopefully that will help!

Keypad turns on by itself

I have the same issue with the keypad turning on.
No its not a ghost,
its not heat,
its not light,
its not wind,
base station is line of site say 20' away
I have just set the panel in power save mode but I am not sure why I need to do that for proper operation of the keypad.
I am going to try rebooting the base station next.

It did not do this until the last firmware update. it has gone through two sets of batteries in as many months. not good.

SS do you have a FIX ?

^ Just so you know, it occurred well before even the first OTA update, and subsequently, after two more additional updates.   It was supposed to have been "fixed" at or before the last update, but of course, it wasn't.

Same problem. Can see my keypad from the living room. Heat comes from a ceiling-mount register not far from the keypad. There is a ceiling fan. SS support helped me put the keypad into power-save mode. The problem was quick to reoccur. Turned off the ceiling fan; no help. Read on a SS forum about how heat activates the keypad.

I turned the fan back on and covered the entire keypad with clear plastic wrap (the cheap stuff) and remounted it on the wall. It's been several days and no apparent reoccurrences. You can use the keypad normally, it still lights up when you touch the keypad or the buttons.

I will still plan to call SS to replace the keypad since it is still under warrantee.

I replaced the keypad and solved the problem after trying every suggestion.
