@marvic1 the Keypad has a feature call Power Savings, which automatically activates the backlight only when it detects a person nearby. The proximity sensor works similar to a Motion Sensor in that it's really looking for sources of heat moving around in the room. So yours could be picking up something in view - like if it was set up in your bedroom, it could be detecting you!
Other users note above how to toggle the Power Savings feature, so that the backlight comes on only when you press a key.

This is happening to me also. From across the room, I have seen the keypad light up.

"Press "menu", enter MASTER PIN and get a menu. scroll up to "devices" and press "open" (right edge). scroll down to the keypad you want to change and press the right edge to select. Scroll down two to "Power Savings". Press "on" (right edge)".

WHY, does the Key Pad lights turn on in the middle of the night, sometimes more than twice a night?

My keypad is also randomly lighting up at night, as if someone had touched it but there’s no one there. I can see it from across the room when I’m in bed and it freaks me the hell out. Why does it do this?
