History of Sensor Activity

Is it possible to get a history of the entry sensor activity (whenever a door or window was open or closed) irrespective of whether the system was armed or disarmed. I know that we can get the current state of the sensors, but what would be useful is to see when doors/windows are opened or closed on a historical basis, even without arming the system. This was a great feature in the Frontpoint system that I previously had.

I dont understand why you can simply silently log when entry sensors and motions sensor events happen...

Everyone in this thread recognizes this is useful.

Everyone in this thread is requesting this feature.

Your competitors already have this feature and this will definitely make me not invest further in Simpli Safe in favor of a system that has this feature.

What is the holdup?

I got my Simplisafe Yesterday and got it all installed by last night.  Yes, that is when I found out the base station only chimes versus telling you specifically why it chimed and no ability to use the app to verify sensors being tripped.  I will be returning this system in the next few weeks and going to ADT or Vivant

I just switched from a different company to SimpliSafe and was used to being able to see the status of all of the sensors (which included whether or not a motion sensor was in a triggered/active state) and also a history of when sensors are triggered regardless of alarm state.  It's very disappointing and alarming (no pun intended) that SimpliSafe does not offer this basic feature and is something that people have been clamoring for years now that has seemingly fallen on deaf ears.  Not a good start and may very well lead me to return this system and go with something else.

I would like to see the activity in history and not get alerts. Also automate your menu to update in real-time. Our previous system (ring) has this and I really like the feature.

@Tania thanks for the feedback.

Just in case you missed it, you do have the ability to disable notifications for the Activity category - that is, arms and disarms. You can find that setting in the SimpliSafe app, under Menu > Alerts & Notifications.

The logged events will still show up on your Timeline event log.

I just started installing my system today and was very surprised I couldn't find this feature.  I see that it's unlikely Simplisafe will offer this, based on the age of this thread.  It is a VERY useful feature.  I'm not sure I'll keep the system without it.  Everything seems so outdated - I wonder if the service actually works.

I am also amazed that Simplisafe does not have this feature as our previous service included this for over the 5 years we had them. This is frustrating as there are times where the alarm may not be armed and the door is unlocked while we are away. It would be super helpful to see if the door was opened while we were away.

It is disappointing to see that this thread has been going on for so long with no real attempt to address the issue.

I am incredibly disappointed in the lack of customer care that SimpliSafe is providing... This issue has been ongoing for over four years, and the only response we have received from SimpliSafe is the same canned response that was given 3 YEARS AGO... Seriously?

This is a basic feature that all competitors have, and it is clearly something that is wanted by your customers...

@caymanjay thank you for your feedback.

At this time, unfortunately this is not something that the system is capable of. There is a Timeline event log in the SimpliSafe app, but it only records the following events:

  • Actual alarm events and triggers (including Secret Alerts)
  • System Armed
  • System Disarmed
  • Error (such as low battery, or if a component is not responding)
  • Camera Motion

But your system does not transmit data when sensors are opened or closed, if the system is disarmed.

Can we know why this isn't a feature. Clearly your customers want this feature and are confused by your decision. SimipliSafe, why don't you include this practical safety feature?
