Outside Cameras
I'm looking at getting a new security system. Do the SimpliSafe outdoor cameras run on a rechargeable battery? There isn't an option for power? With a battery, how often do I need to lug out a ladder, pull out the battery, take it inside to charge, then climb back up and put the battery in. Multiply this times 4.

You can get a power cord from them that plugs into an outlet, or a solar panel option is also available. Just to let you know, these cameras take an awful long time to wake up and start recording when motion is detected. I can walk up to my step and pick up a package and walk away and never be recorded, that's how slow they are. I talked to support, and they said that's how they work. If you want the cameras to record immediately, I would leave these cameras alone.

Thank you for this information. I did some more digging and see similar comments about their cameras. They are pretty expensive but sound worthless. I had ADT and had very similar experiences with their cameras, which is why I dumped them and now shopping around. Do you know if there are good options out there?

I am looking around myself, I'm considering buying a complete camera system that I monitor myself. Most camera systems have the ability to alert you when motion occurs and they are constantly on, so you won't miss anything. If SimpliSafe won't correct their problem before my return time is up, I will return the whole system that I just paid $1000 for and put that money into another system that actually cares about its customers.
