Outdoor Camera Motion Push Notification in AWAY mode

So I have two new outdoor cameras and  I get notifications of motion all day long when the system is DISARMED and it simply wastes the battery life as I don't want motion notifications on my front porch or back yard if I am home.

When  I put the system in AWAY mode, I want motion notifications that someone is on my porch or in my backyard, yet the system DOES NOT SEND PUSH NOTIFICATIONS on the outdoor cameras  in AWAY MODE.  Anyone else have this problem?

Also, I think having the option to NOT trigger motion detection when the system is disarmed would be a nice feature and would really save on the Outdoor camera battery life as I go in and out of the home a lot and just kills the battery   Yes I could enable motion when I leave and disable motion when home for the two outdoor cameras, but what a hassle.  Anyone agree?

Mike

Hi folks,

Currently, the Outdoor Cam is designed to be active at all times. So davis1024, yours should actually be triggering even in Away Mode. I'd suggest resetting the camera by holding the button in the back for 16 seconds. When you release, you can reinstall it again via the app. That should reset the firmware, just in case there was an issue there.

But on the subject of adding armed modes to the Outdoor Cam, I'll be sure to add both of your voices. It's definitely a suggestion I've passed on to our devs before.

@davey_d Yes please!  When the system is off I don’t want outdoor cameras to be recording nor sending notifications

I get the notifications on my iWatch & it’s pretty irritating to have it constantly buzz me as I walk around the yard.

back yard is an odd shape so it took four cameras to get complete coverage

gate alley - buzz

back patio - buzz

rear yard - buzz

street alley - buzz

buzz buzz buzz buzz!

@davey_d completely agree with everyone else here, why would we want the outdoor cameras to function differently then the rest of the security system sensors? Doesn't make much sense, especially being battery powered. Please push to make an update so off mode stops detection like the indoor cameras are setup.

Thank you

@davey_d Agree that this should be an option to turn off recording and notifications to save battery life if the system is set to Away or Home mode. Please continue to push this to the developers.

@davey_d  even just a single toggle to turn off motion detection on all the cameras at once instead of visiting every camera one by one

right now it takes three clicks to get to camera settings

then six clicks on each of my 5 outdoor cameras to turn off motion detection and save

Plus two clicks to get out of settings

35 STEPS!

Then I have to remember to do it all in reverse when I leave and want to arm the system

Really detracts from the ease of the one button push on my $24.99 Key Fob

please, pease save us!

@davey_d any update on this issue?

Mike, I totally agree with you on this issue. There needs to be an option to turn on the camera automatically when in Home or Away, just like the inside cameras. All I can find is that you can set on or off from the app but no option in modes. This needs to be fixed!

Hi Davey:

I agree I should get Push notifications in all modes but the fact it is not occurring on both Cameras not one, is more of an indication of a bug as I have reset one of the cameras recently and still no notifications in Away mode.  I could try SMS versus the Apple IOS push and see if that works, but slower than a push to the iPhone.

Can you test this scenario and advise it you get a push notification of motion when in Away mode as I still do not on two outdoor cameras.

By the way, thank you so much for submitting the idea on the outdoor camera modes, as I believe a lot of users may only want a motion on or a notification when armed in home or away modes,  not disarmed.  The option for users to select if motion is active in different would be a great enhancement.

Sincerely,
Mike Davis

Hi Davey:

I finally got the motion notifications to work while in away mode.  I had to delete the Simplisafe IOS app on both our cell phones and re-install it, after that it worked. Strange bug in the IOS app.

Ahah! So I suspect that the issue might have been with the config file stored on your phone. Reinstalling the app would have wiped and replaced it.

Has this been fixed yet?

@mpmeyer9 are you saying you're also having an issue where your Outdoor Camera isn't sending notifications for motion? And did you also try what davis1024 did, which is to uninstall and reinstall the app on your phone?

I was asking about a way to avoid the motion detection notifications from my outdoor cam when the system is set to off. Sorry for the vague question and thanks for getting back to me.

Ah, thanks for the clarification. No, right now the Outdoor Camera still does not respond to the armed state of the system and is active at all times.

This is a real nuisance for the SimpliSafe doorbell camera. I need to go out my front door to access my garage which I do several times a day. I DO NOT need motion notifications when I’m home. Seriously did you not test your product before releasing it? There should be a setting to allow me to only receive motion notifications when the system is armed. I’m ok with it recording while not armed but I’m sick of all these notifications on my phone.

It should be an option if you want the outdoor cam to be on when the system is disarmed. I'm pretty disappointed as my other cam do this as well as I can set a schedule for when my other cams are on in a much cheaper system than simplisafe. I hope they do something about this soon as its kind of a deal breaker.

Not being able to disable the outdoor cam when the system is off will be the reason I return the system. I should be able to schedule times the camera is active also. It's a shame the battery lasted about two weeks due to this issue. I hope there's an update soon but it looks like simplisafe simply isn't listening.

I recently had two outdoor cameras arrive, and  today during setup I realized the same issue (inability to choose notifications by system mode) all day long I’ll be getting notifications for movement because my kids play in the yard with my dogs.

SimpliSafe, I’ve us the option to disable recordings and alerts when the system is off.

While you’re at it, allow me to disable my doorbell chime after 10pm so I don’t get woken up by street youths playing games.

Seriously it's silly that u can't make the outdoor cameras only send push notifications when the system is armed. My kids are running around all the time and my phone constantly buzzes with push notifications. The cameras are to protect us when we are inside asleep or when on vacation they will notify us of trouble. We should be able to turn this off when we are home it should be automatic. On when armed. Off when disarmed. Come on simplisafe this is basic setting that needs fixed.

Adding my vote to this. I don’t want to get constant push notifications from the outdoor camera when my daughter is playing in our back yard.

Should be able to choose whether to only receive notifications when the system is armed.

This seems incredibly basic. Not sure how it got out in production without this option, nor how it’s been this long and this still hasn’t been addressed.

I totally agree with all the above regarding camera arming and disarming, I'm seriously considering returning the system because of it. It totally defeats the purpose of the system if I'm turning all my phone notifications off just so I don't get constantly buzzed at while at home every time I walk outside

The fact you can't disable notifications when the alarm is off really lets this camera down, I'm getting spammed with notifications that I should be able to turn off unless the alarm is set to either home or away. I'm a new customer and loving every other aspect of SimpliSafe so far but an update to give us more control over outdoor camera motion detection notifications is needed to make this camera usable and bring it up to the standard of other SimpliSafe devices.

Add my input to allow the end user to be able to turn on/off the outdoor cameras when the system in not in alarm mode.

Is the development team planning on addressing this issue anytime soon? Is there a "fix" date scheduled?

Adding my voice to the masses- PLEASE allow us to stop notifications when the system is off. It's infuriating getting an alert every time we're in our own yard.

Adding my vote for being able to stop notifications based on armed mode (for me disabled while off, silent while home, alarm while away)
