Outdoor Camera Stopped Recording During Motion

Definitely a SimpliSafe failure.  Our neighbor was robbed recently and even though the criminal walked in front of our house we only got ~10 seconds recorded.  No ability to see what direction he may have gone but it stopped while he was still walking on our sidewalk.

@hfchristine I converted your comment into a post as well so we can troubleshoot your camera here. The Outdoor Camera should record a full motion event, but an incomplete recording is often due a connectivity issue.

I would recommend using our in-app Connection Check tool to troubleshoot the camera's connection. It will run a scan on your camera and provide steps to improve its connection based on its results. This article in our Help Center provides steps on how to use the Connection Check tool and explains what your results mean.

@emily_s I have run the tool and my signal ranges good to excellent.  The /SimpliSafe extender is 3 feet from the camera.  I have settings on all motion and high sensitivity.  I would have expected a minimum run time after activation to occur.

I have the same problem.  My camera stops recording after ~15 seconds, even if someone is walking toward the camera.  As an example a car pulls in the driveway and triggers the camera.  Someone gets out of the car and comes to the house, and the camera stops recording as they are walking toward the front door.  I have full bars on WiFi Strength and WiFi Upload Speed and Condition is rated good on Connection Check.

@BG131 How far away is this camera from the Base Station? The Outdoor Camera relies on its connection to your Wi-Fi network and Base Station in order to wake up and record. We recommend slightly adjusting the location of the Base Station to move it closer to this camera.

It is only about 15 feet away from the base at the same level.  The camera is also slow to start recording.  It is on the highest sensitivity and set to detect all motion.

@BG131 To preserve battery life, the Outdoor Camera enters "deep sleep" when it is not in use. If the camera is plugged into a power source (like the Solar Panel or the Power Cable) that allows it to enter Performance Mode, resulting in faster times to record and livestream.

We have had Simply Safe for a year . Didn't have problems with recordings but they are not recording anymore. My cameras are close to the base station and we haven't had this issue in the past.

📡 –30 dBm shown below is fantastic!

That’s basically screaming Wi-Fi signal strength — short of setting the AP on top of the camera, you can’t get much better.

Combine that with multiple Mesh APs and brick/plaster walls and I'm still getting 7–13 second live views with solar panels and performance mode? Yeah.

That’s not my network — that’s 100 % Simplislow’s deep sleep + cheap wi-fi radios + laggy cloud, + RF handshake cocktail. 🧪

“Look, folks, this is a perfect signal, and it’s still awful for security.”

And yes, I've moved base station everywhere, even tried the attic.😅
