Outdoor Camera Issues

Have have had the SS system for a few years now, with several indoor cameras that work flawlessly. I Installed the outdoor cam in my back yard yesterday and so far, it’s been very inconsistent.  Wake/load times, disconnected, and then sometimes it loads right up.  Motion detection has not been an issue.  It catches motion and I’m getting the notifications from the app. The coverage on my mesh Wi-Fi system is very good.  One satellite and two nodes so that can’t be the issue.  I’m going to give it a few more days to see what happens.  It’s only been a day but I’m more than a bit frustrated with this already.

Just a follow up.  There have also been instances where the “waking up the camera/connecting” message displays, followed by the live view for a few seconds, then it goes back to “waking up the camera” status.  Hoping SS will address sooner rather than later.

Hi there,

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, there's a known issue with the Outdoor Camera's wake-up time. It's related to how the camera goes into a deep sleep so it can preserve battery life. Our engineering team continues to work on optimizing responsiveness in future firmware updates.

In the meantime, part of that wake-up process does involve communicating with the Base Station. Which is why troubleshooting the local radio link (not WiFi) between the Base Station and your Outdoor Camera, can sometimes help.

We recommend, for example, keeping your Base Station within 100-150ft of the Outdoor Camera, or at least moving the Base Station to the same side of the house as where the Outdoor Camera is. It would also help to identify potential causes of interference, like dense walls and appliances, or other wireless signals. Our Support team can help with that!

Thanks so much for the reply.  Base station is within that range from the camera. I had my previously used ring cam mounted within 2 to 3 feet from the outdoor cam.  Removed it and things have improved considerable.  Also one of the nodes to my mesh network is placed on a window sill about a foot or so above the camera.  So far so good.  Thanks again!
