Ideas to route cable through wall for power

Have an outdoor camera (watching front yard) that I am looking for ideas on how to route the power cord through the front wall/siding to plug into my garage outlet. Looking at having to drill a hole, but also looking for the best way to ensure bugs/water, extra stuff doesn’t get in.

Hi @joshczerpak ,

I think it can be just as simple as that - drilling holes in the all that the cable can go through. I would suggest just using caulk,  and maybe spacers, to seal the hole shut.

It would also help to set up the cable so that it's tighter on the camera side, and coiled up on the plug side, where you'll likely want more room to maneuver. And use fasterners to hold down the cable so that it doesn't move around and undo the seal.

I'll offer another opinion and suggest you do some research to see if you can find a wall grommet that will work for you. Calk will work but it's also semi-permanent (depending on the type of calk used, how much, etc.) whereas you may be able to find a grommet that will seal the wall but can also be opened/closed if you need to adjust or replace the cable, for example.

Look at https://www.amazon.com/wall-grommets-cables/s?k=wall+grommets+for+cables for examples but use google to search and don't just rely on Amazon.
