Drilling hole in the SimpliCam mount void warranty?

Those mounts look really nice and would definitely serve the purpose well, but I have three cameras I need to hang. Spending $60+ for three mounts is a bit much considering what I paid for the cameras.  I took the liberty of drilling a single small hole large enough to get a very small screw through in the center of the mounts.  I must admit that it looks pretty good AND it holds the camera nice and secure.  I do have one camera that I do not have to do this with so, if one of the cameras does go bad, I'll return it with the mount that isn't drilled.  As good as customer service has been over the years, I can't imagine that they would void the warranty over this.

Yeah, they could try to deny it for such a trivial reason but they would have to eat crow if the consumer fought it.

The previous poster was correct. They would have to show that the hole drilled is what caused the problem in order to void warranty based on that.

If one drilled a hole in the camera body and moisture got in or you ran the bit into the electronics that would be one thing. But, drilling a hole in the base is, in itself, unreasonable grounds on which to void warranty if, say, the camera itself malfunctioned.

On the other hand, if you drill the hole and somehow in the process screw up the base, yeah, SS is under no obligation to give you a replacement camera under warranty for a screwed up base that you caused.

True, but the mount is not an integral part of the camera.  If modifying the mount caused a structural problem with it, then I can see voiding the warranty for the mount itself; however, it is a separate component and has absolutely no affect on the camera.  I'll have to speak with at least two or three tech support folks at SS to see what they say about this.  It'll be interesting if I get conflicting responses.

Most likely, if SS has properly trained the agents, you're going to get the party line, "we cannot endorse or recommend any particular modifications" type of thing. This is a case where its probably better to ask forgivness than to ask permission.
