Does the Outdoor Camera battery charge if it also plugged into the power cord?

If the outdoor camera is installed using the optional plug-in power, does that mean that the included battery will continue to stay charged and recharge as needed via the plug-in power, or will it drain over time and have to be removed, and recharged via a USB cable?

Hi @chrismcd,

The Outdoor Camera Power Cable will keep your Outdoor Camera's battery fully charged at all times! With it, you will not need to remove the battery from your camera and charge it with the USB cable.

I've bought 2 cables. Neither one will charge the outdoor camera. Strange that simplisafe offers a wired doorbell but wireless cameras.

@jhard141 Do you see any indication in the SimpliSafe mobile app that the Outdoor Camera is charging? In the Cameras page, you should see a green lightning bolt next to the battery to indicate that it's getting a charge.

If you do not see that indication in the app, I would first check to make sure that the power cord is plugged into the Outdoor Camera all the way. We recommend using both thumbs, if possible, to press the power cable in, making sure that it is flush with the camera.

But if it is plugged in all the way, I would confirm that the outlet you are using is working properly. It can help to plug something like a phone charger into the outlet to see if it will charge your phone or not.

I was wondering the same thing.  What is the plug in power referenced in the question?  Sounds like it is something that has to travel from the camera to an electrical outlet am I correct?  The camera did not come with this type cable.
All in all it sounds like either way this limits you on where you can place the camera.  My first camera came with the solar panel.  Way better w/out limitation on where one can place the camera.
Thank you for the help !

@jlenoir that would be the 25ft Power Adapter accessory, sold separately here.

It does connect the Outdoor Camera to mains power. While it is limited in range (25ft, and you'd have to figure out where to route the cable), it has the advantage of keeping the camera powered at all times, even on cloudy days and at night.

Does the power cord keep my camera battery charged all the time if no power is on during hurricane and storms or does it have to be plugged in with power all the time

@katunderwood18 The Outdoor Camera's Power Cable does need to be plugged into power to charge the Outdoor Camera's battery.

If you're looking for an option that does not require a constant power source, we also offer a Solar Panel that keeps the Outdoor Camera charged, just as long as it receives 3 hours of direct sunlight a day.

I have 2 outdoor cameras on the power cord and 2 on the solar panels and let me say it's a beautiful thing to never have to get up and change batteries, highly recommend either option.

I have several of the SimpliSafe Wireless Outdoor Security Cameras and I'm having difficulty with the outdoor charging cables. I purchased  the  Outdoor Camera's 25ft power cable kits with my cameras and have them plugged in 100% of the time. The cable and outlet have power but the camera does not show the lightning bolt charging indicator and the batteries continue to fully deplete. They are pretty high up on my property so accessing them for battery changes is very difficult and time consuming.
