Battery Charging with Power Cable

I have been sent several replacement cameras and batteries because my battery will not stay charged even though it is connected to Simplisafe's power cable and charger. I have never gotten any push back from Simplisafe when asking for a replacement but no replacement has fixed the problem.

Are there other users that have or have had this problem? If so, was it resolved and how?

Hi @dankelly736,

When you plug the charging cable into your Outdoor Camera, do you see any indication in the mobile app that the camera is charging? In the Cameras page of the app, there should be a lightning bolt next to the battery to indicate that it's charging. If replacing the camera has not helped, a replacement power cable may be the solution.

Having the exact problems. They rep sending new cables and batteries. They work the first time then

nothing. Right now my outdoor battery has been charging for hrs. The app shows that it has not moved.  So disgusted!

@sportsmom5709 Just to confirm, you are using the 25ft Power Cable to charge the Outdoor Camera's battery?

If the mobile app doesn't show any change in the camera's battery, we would want to check the outlet it is plugged into and the power cable itself. I would recommend plugging something else into the power outlet like a phone charger to make sure it is working properly.

If the outlet is working, the next step would be to ensure that the power cable is securely plugged into the Outdoor Camera. I would recommend unplugging it and then plug it back it, making sure that the cable has been pushed in all the way so it is flush to the camera.

Yes, my SimpliSafe batteries will not hold a charge either. They replaced all of them previously, but I’m having the same issue which is once they get low and I try to charge them they don’t hold a charge.

I ordered a plug in power supply from Amazon. It’s the UYODM Power Cable. It’s been installed since mid September 2023 and my battery is still at 100%. SimpliSafe’s plug in power supply would not keep the battery charged.

@pwg112 are you talking about the battery for the SimpliSafe Wireless Outdoor Camera? It comes with a short USB-micro cable, but not a power brick. Sometimes the power brick you've paired with the cable isn't able to supply enough power, though I've seen rare cases where the power cable itself was faulty as well.

As @dankelly736 suggests, trying a different USB-micro cable and power adapter can help with troubleshooting - you might already have spares at home.

I have the original outdoor battery plus I bought a new one. My app says the battery is low and will not power the camera. I charge the batteries until all 3 lights are on. I put the battery in and informed battery is low and needs to be charged. I am  frustrated with this.

@twbj82 Just to confirm, is the battery properly seated into the Outdoor Camera? When putting the battery into the camera, the three gold circles on the battery should be facing up and match the three gold prongs inside the camera's battery slot. The battery tab should also be outwards, facing you.

After inserting the battery, secure the lens to the camera by twisting it clockwise until you hear it click into place and can no longer move.

If the battery is properly seated, I would then recommend connecting with our Support team for further troubleshooting.

My cameras did the same thing until one day i removed the camera because it suddenly showed offline.  The power cable melted the camera port. The camera is now unusable.  Remove these cables if you have one installed.  Or else you may find your home in ashes. Why Simplisafe hasn't recalled these cables i am clueless.

@chipperledbetter This absolutely should not happen when the power cable is plugged into the Outdoor Camera and this it something we would want to replace ASAP. I've escalated your case details to our Specialist team - a senior agent will call you soon for further assistance.

Ive had all 5 of my cameras that had to be replaced with new cables.  In fact, I just put a new cable on another one and it is still not charging!!

SimpliSafe stepped up and made things right.  They called me to discuss the issues.  Then they sent me a replacement camera as well as the cable.  So far no repeat issues.  I did return the burned up cable and camara so they could investigate the issue.  Had it not been for other reported cases, I would have just assumed this was an isolated case.  But it definitely appears the cable may be the issue.  If I start noticing the new cable or my other cable starting to have the same issues, I will just go wireless until its resolved.  Certainly dont want to damage another camera or worse.  Hopefully their team will get into it further and find a resolution.  Certainly should start with the cables.

Same issue with my outdoor camera. Will not charge. I told Customer Service that the USB cable plug-in to the camera shows signs of excessive heat but CS decided to send replacement battery as first step. This has not resolved the "no-charging" issue. Next step should be replacement camera, cable, and power supply from what I'm gathering on this thread?

Since they sent me a replacement camera and power supply, I am not certain of the cause.  But I would definitely start with the power supply cable.  I have not had any issues since I have installed all the replacements.  I would have thought in either case this would have been resolved by now and Simplisafe sent out a recall on whatever caused the issue.  Since the battery did nothing I would call them back and request a new power supply cable.

@dabrandt22 Since the replacement battery didn't help, and your camera shows signs of damage, we would certainly want to replace that camera and the power cable for good measure. Our Support team can help can help send that out.
