Android battery draining

The simplisafe app is heavily draining the battery of my galaxy s22 plus. Is this a common occurrence?

Hi all,

Thanks for reporting this issue. Our dev team has been working on a fix. If you have not already, please update the SimpliSafe app on your device to version 4.56 (or higher).

If you continue to see issues after updating, please let us know here!

@christinah717 short answer, no, at least not on my Pixel 4a.  I do experience the occasional "rogue" app that was working fine for months and then all of a sudden start eating my battery for lunch.  To address this, I go to settings, apps and then "force stop" the app. Then clear out cache and then restart the phone. Most of the time this will address the issue and life goes on.  Suggest you try it, if no help try a complete uninstall and reinstall.

Finally, call SS support to troubleshoot.

@captain11 I did all of the above to no avail. It apparently seems to be just a poor compatibility with Samsung galaxy

Unfortunately it did the same thing on my galaxy s20 plus (got a new phone about 3 months after getting simplisafe)

It just doesn't seem to be strongly compatible with the galaxy OS or something

Hi @christinah717 ,

How are you determining that it's the SimpliSafe app that is the culprit? The Battery Usage section in your phone's Settings?

It would also be helpful to know what version of the SimpliSafe app is currently installed - that can help our dev team investigate.

I am having similar issues with my Galaxy s10e. My phone's battery settings recommend putting Simplisafe app in deep sleep mode to prevent excessive battery use, however this turns off notifications.

Android 12

Samsung One UI version 4.1

Simplisafe version 4.44.0

@Redleg77 are you actually seeing a big impact on battery life? If we could bring hard data to our devs, that will give them more to go on as they investigate.

Yeah, I use my system to monitor a family member with dementia so I can not shut notifications off, they are the entire reason I have the system. It's really a pain, I might switch to blink or another system. I have three cameras (well I have 4 bur one won't connect even though it's not a bandwidth or signal issue) and sometimes the app lags for minutes.

I too am having this issue with my Samsung Galaxy A51, it did not start until 08/08/2022.

My battery would last me two to three days now it will not last eight hours.

@freants My SS app on my Pixel 4a and now 6a never had this issue, however, there would some others that, after never draining the battery, would start for no obvious reason.  Walgreens was one of those apps, and in settings, I change the battery setting from "optimal" to "restricted".  See if you can do that on your Samsung.

I cant because that will shut off notifications. I need them because I use my system to monitor a family member with alzheimer's

Thank you Captain11, I appreciate your suggestion.

I have had my Galaxy A51 and SimpliSafe for several years with no issues, this is something that just started happening as of 08/08/2022.

But I am with christinah717 changing the battery setting to "restricted" shuts off notifications I rely on these notifications. Why have a security system app if you cannot monitor it?

There has to be a fix available that will allow us to use our SimpliSafe app without draining our battery.

I have the same issue with simpliSafe using lots of battery and my device care asking to put it into deep sleep. Doing that turns off all notifications, which takes away half the reason I need the security system. It does make an impact, cutting my battery life about 30%.

I'm going to pile on here. Us Samsung users are noticing the issues recently because the Samsung version of Android actively looks for issues to keep our phones ruining well, Motorola Android does not, but that does not mean thru don't have issues, they just might not know why.

I like having the app open for app notifications, but my phone works much better if I close the widget, put the app to sleep and rely on only text alerts. This way not the case a few months ago, so something changed.

I am having the same issue. I checked and there is no app update to download. If I put yhe app to sleep, will it still notify me of incidents?

Hi @socsusan,

What version are you seeing on your device now? You can check by navigating to your phone's Settings:

System Settings > Apps > See All Apps > SimpliSafe. The Version number should be right at the bottom.

The most recent available on the Google Play Store should be 4.59.1, as of today.

This is definitely still an issue on my Galaxy S20+ with the latest version of everything. All of my battery monitoring utilities show it as super high consumption.

@Solommi1987 the issue initially reported way back in May 2022 should have been resolved, as of the Android app version 4.56+. So you might be experiencing a different issue. I'm reporting this to our app team.

In the meantime, I would suggest uninstalling the SimpliSafe app and reinstalling the latest version from the Google Play Store.

@bob_lawrence while our App team continues to look into this, I recommend uninstalling the SimpliSafe app and reinstalling it on your device.
