Minimum temperature

Can the motion sensors be used on an enclosed porch that is for the most part unheated (30ish in winter)?  Also how far will the entry sensors reach? we have some that we have determined will not work in the house but may work in the bunkhouse.

Hi @ssfifer ,

The recommended operating environment for most of our sensors, including the Motion Sensor, is between 32°F to 120°F, with 90% max humidity. That Motion Sensor may still continue working beyond that, but the battery may stop working in the extreme cold.

Regarding range: the sensors can reach up to ~800ft over open air. However, environmental factors can decrease that range quite a bit. For example, if you have mesh insulation, brick walls, or metal siding, that could do a lot to impede the signal. Moving the Base Station to different spots where it would have a clearer path for the signal can help.

I’m experiencing the same issues.  Except the sensors completely fail - a new battery and allowing the sensor to 75 degrees does not resolve the issue.   And the coldest the window frame temp was 45 degrees… Considering the “cold” weather issues with SimpliSafe entry sensors for a number of years, what do you recommend for customers that depend on entry sensors for entry doors as the 32 - 120 range?  32 is clearly not adequate at the low temp range.  Are your engineers developing a sensor that will operate in cold weather below 32?  Or do have recommendation for a system that does?
