Do the entry sensors use regular adhesive tape?

I refer to the sensor and not the magnet (the magnets come with foam-like strips).

In my home office, I had a meeting and noticed the sensor on the side window of my office is no longer wholly fixed to the surface. My best guess is that it has to do with the strips SimpliSafe was shipping with the new systems at the time. Those were nowhere near as strong as the 3M Command tape. Unfortunately, I cannot recall if there is a simple, regular strip behind the sensor. I have some 3M strips on hand and want to confirm before removal that that is what the entry sensors use. I believe I have the proper size but can trim the longer ones if necessary. I do not want the entry sensor falling and setting off the alarm, so I need to replace it as soon as possible.

Also, I do not see a tab to pull, which makes me think something else is on the back of the sensor (I could be wrong). I am not sure how to remove it without a tab to pull.

Hi Shiherlis,

For some time we had been using a different brand of adhesive, which works similar to, the 3M brand. So they work kind of the same - pull the tab slowly and it'll come away without damaging the wall. You can definitely replace them with the legit 3M strips.

We're not sure what happened to that tab on yours, but you can also try the wiggle trick to get the sensor off:
Slowly and firmly waggle the Sensor from side to side, without pulling the sensor out (actually might be easier with the whole sensor still on the bracket, since it gives you more to grip onto). Eventually the adhesive will come apart and lose grip on the wall.

Yeah, they're regular strips on the sensor (unless you've mounted with screws, of course).

You have to slide the sensor off the bracket to get to the pull tab.

Ah, thank you, whoaru99. As you can probably tell, once my sensors go up, I do not move them or take them down. Eight years with SS2 and SS3 combined, and I did not know that. I am not sure how I removed my SS2 sensors before giving the system away (or I forgot).

And thank you, Johnny M. It is great to see interaction and answers to questions on the forum.

Thank you, Captain. I thought something was wrong with the forums (or SimpliSafe revamped them to 2021 and beyond format, and there was a new URL). I did not see any recent posts, which is highly unusual. I wondered if a disaster occurred and the Internet was down for the majority (or the apocalypse was upon us ;-).

Have a great weekend!

All of my sensors are stuck up with the strips that come with them.  About a month ago, I went around and checked all of my sensors.  Half of them were about to fall off.  I've already had one false alarm caused by a sensor falling off in the middle of the night.  There's nothing more frightening than being woken out of a sound sleep by your burglar alarm.

I got some of that nano tape that they sell all over Amazon and stuck all of my sensors up with that.  They are never going to come off.  I made the mistake of sticking my keypad up with that.  Don't make that mistake.  I tried to take it off and ripped a bunch of texture and paint off of the wall.  I'm going to have to fix that spot if I ever sell this place.

I wouldn't trust the sticky strips that they give with the sensors.  Either use the screws or find something that actually sticks.

How do I get extra Adhesive Tape for Entry Magnets? My miniblinds keep knocking them off. System 3. There is no way to order on the product page.

Hi @Techster00 ,

We use 3M brand Command Adhesives for our sensors. You can find them at your local grocery or hardware store, and just cut them down to size!
