Indoor Cameras drop out

I have 4 indoor camera and 1 external camera. Wi-Fi is in the centre of the house and I have a dedicated 2.4ghz band for the alarm, all of SimpliSafe connect to this one channel

External camera NEVER drops out and it’s the furthest away from the Wi-Fi, internal cameras drop out randomly all the time and I have to reboot them. I get 2 different messages, see screen shot

Any idea?

thoughts?

Hi @DanielH

It looks like you are using the WebApp to stream.

Could you share more detail on the experience:
- Do these error messages happen after a period of successful streaming? (Example after 1-2 minutes)

- Do you get these error messages when streaming from a mobile device?

- Is this a recent issue you started experiencing or has this been your experience always?

Would recommend double-checking your Wi-Fi connections to these cameras are the same as the Wi-Fi connection to your Base Station and Outdoor Camera.

Yes, i am using the webapp, but also happens on iPhone App also

Yes, they happen after a few minutes of a live feed

Yes, also does same on mobile

Only since I added 3 extra cameras have, I noticed the issue

Indoor camera and base station are on dedicated 2.4Ghz channel. External is actually on the 5Ghz channel

Hi @DanielH,

Thanks for sharing that update — and sorry to hear the drops are still happening. We somehow missed your response to our message, apologies for any frustration caused!

Since your Outdoor Cameras seem solid, but the Indoor ones are randomly dropping, this does suggest a local bandwidth or signal handling issue rather than a Wi-Fi range problem. Each camera needs 4 Mbps of upload speed to stream or record reliably. If you’ve got multiple cameras streaming at once you will need around 24 Mbps available at any given time.

A few quick checks that often help stabilise the connection:

  • Running a speed test on your indoor cameras to confirm your available upload speed.

  • Wi-Fi channel congestion: Even with a dedicated 2.4GHz band, interference from nearby networks or smart devices can cause temporary drops. Switching the channel manually (usually via your router’s settings) can sometimes improve performance.

  • If you notice it’s the same camera(s) dropping, try swapping their positions temporarily to see if the behaviour follows the device or the location.

If the upload speeds look fine and the drops persist, we can dig deeper.

@DanielH would recommend doing a speed test in-app on the Cameras. You can do this through the camera settings page in app. Your camera speed test results will be more insightful as they are the impacted components.
