System Firmware 2.3 (August 2021)

Hi folks,

We've got another one rolling out to all users soon. You'll notice from the smaller bump in version number, it's a smaller update this time, mostly for further refinements to WiFi connectivity. Of course, we still recommend installing to keep your system in good shape!

If you've never updated before, you can refer to our Help Center article here to get started.

Here's what's coming in Update 2.3:

  • Added support for Wireless Outdoor Security Camera!
  • You can now connect to an unencrypted WiFi connection, if you wish (might help for troubleshooting!)
  • WiFi security enhancements
  • When current firmware version needs to be updated to support new hardware, you'll get a warning only during Pairing Mode
  • Various connectivity performance improvements

Also JohnC60 and Shiherlis,

You mentioned having an issue in this thread with your Base Stations not reconnecting to WiFi automatically.
When Update 2.3 is available on your systems, it's possible that it will resolve your issue as well.

The gear icon appeared on my Keypad this morning (I also received the notification in the app). We will see if there are any bugs, as I usually wait before employing. However, I applied the update due to the wireless network problem and the manual update error issue I encountered (this update fixed the latter). I will see if the router disconnection issue is still present after testing the system tomorrow.

Any details on what "Various connectivity performance improvements" covers?  Does this fix/enhancement address delays before notification happening once in a while with entry sensors?

More PINs, PLEASE!
I called up support because SimpliSafe's website says to have a code for everyone. But when I called that I could only have 4 PIN's, 5 if you count the Master PIN. That is not enough for each child, house cleaner, and relatives. I would like 4 is really not enough PINs.
Please look at expanding the PIN count to at least 10.

Thank you

@cervellia  a suggested workaround.  I have 1 PIN for the local FD (encrypted in their system, given only on dispatch - no axe through the door to get in...

PIN 2 is shared by our two adult children (both names on one line)
PIN 3 is shared by two neighbors
PIN4 is for contractors that is changed when the job is done.

Yes, more would be nice but not the end of the world.

@Johnny M

It's been ~2 weeks since the original post and I've checked daily but no joy so far. Is there a secret konami code to force the upgrade? :)  Or can you tell us what your process is for rolling this out and how long before it's available to everyone?

This has been requested for at least 10 years.  So they are not going to do it, and if they do do it, they won't tell us and it will take years,  And even if they do complete it, they probably won't announce it and we'll find out when someone discovers it and posts on here  :-)

sevensiamesecats is correct, as usual, and I have to add (my apologies to those who are starting to roll their eyes as the beaten horse tries to escape, but it won't....) it would be really nice for a customer to just click on a link and go to the software release library in the Customer Resource Center and see the name, version number, release date and notes.  Of course, just one of the dozens upon dozens of what a real, well designed CRC can and does do for many companies, but alas, SS will continue to get posts, phone calls, emails etc inbound to their overworked associates.

Amazingly, I think I could copy and paste this post from 2012. C'mon SS, time to get that beaten horse out to pasture. :-)

I updated to this firmware.  I am now getting "ghost" messages regarding my door lock unlocking and locking, when it's not happening...

Thanks for the feedback, RickSimplisafe.

Did you also update to the latest Smart Lock firmware? That one, you'll need to initiate through the SimpliSafe app, and keep your phone nearby as the update is transmitted via bluetooth.

I see nothing in the app indicating that there is an update for the Smart Lock.

According to my timeline, the lock locked, then unlocked, at 3:34AM, BY HAND.  No, it didn't.  It was locked already.  No one did that.  Said it again locked at 7:12AM, then unlocked at 7:18AM.  Nope.

Lots of warm and fuzzy feelings everytime SimpliSafe does an update...

Still getting multiple ghost messages.  Then lock stopped responding.  Had to remove it from app, then reinstall it, to see the update that Johnny M. spoke of.

SimpliSafe really needs to fix this kind of lousy updating.

Thanks for the update. So you're still seeing the phantom notifications after you updated your Smart Lock's firmware?

Right now I suspect that somehow the Smart Lock is somehow sending extremely delayed signals to the Base Station, which might be caused by severe interference.
Just so we can rule it out, I would suggest moving the Base Station temporarily closer to the Smart Lock, if it's not super close already. You might also want to reboot the Base Station by unplugging and removing one battery, then putting it back together. That should force a fresh connection.

Freaky experience this morning.  I'm a longtime SimpliSafe user with experiences at multiple locations but this is a new one.  Has anyone had false alarms since latest software update to the keypads?  This morning at 6:17 we had the following episode:

Alarm status = OFF
We had not touched either of our keypads since yesterday.
Opened front door to take the dog out and alarm triggered INSTANTLY.
Immediately went to keypad to enter PIN to silence.
Spoke to SimpliSafe alarm desk person when they called.  She told me they were a 3rd party and I had to call customer service with any questions. (So apparently, SimpliSafe isn't staffing with employees now.)

Signed onto Simplisafe.com dashboard.  Status report says the "PANIC ALARM SENT FROM KITCHEN KEYPAD" is what caused the alarm.

WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH THAT INFORMATION?

Again:  Alarm system was completely OFF.  Front door entry is set to delay, not instant.  No one had touched either keypad but the signal from the front door entry sensor clearly triggered the instant alarm.

How do I get another software update or re-install?  How can we regain confidence that the system won't have another panic attack completely by itself??

My base station is still at 1.6.4, so it never did get the 2.1 update.

I spent about an hour on the phone today with a tech support representative to try to get the software to update.  There is no gear symbol on either keypad.
After powering everything down and back up and them saying they could see the base station accepting the update ..... The base station is still at 1.6.4.
One keypad is at 1.1.4 and the other at 1.0.2 ..... They say they are sending a new keypad to replace the one at 1.0.2.

I didn't really know how the update process was supposed to work or what the latest update was when I talked to them.  That is why I'm on the forum now to try to figure the all out.

Is it possible to tech support to force the update to a base station?  Why haven't I even gotten the 2.1 update.

I have the same problem. My system does not get updates. Current base station software version is 1.4.62, and I only have this version because after many phone calls to tech support they sent me multiple new base stations (and sometimes keypads too) to try to address the lack of updates. With each base station they sent it would not update, and their solution is always to send out a new base station, which may have had it's firmware loaded months or longer ago and is usually one or several versions behind. Still, 1.4.62 is more recent than the original base station firmware version. Of course we tried having tech support try to push the update, and multiple battery pulls on the keypad and base station.

Other than getting a new base station periodically, I'm not sure what to do. There really is a limit to the help that tech support can provide (which is send a new base station.)

Good luck!
