Outdoor Camera Unable to Reconnect, Flashing Blue

Hi folks,

There is a known issue where some Outdoor Cameras may become unresponsive after reconnecting or charging/swapping batteries. You may see the LED flashing blue - indicating that the unit is actively attempting to send data - but it isn't able to send recordings or allow livestreams.

Firmware Update 1.18 contains a partial fix for this issue, and should now be rolled out to most users. You can check your camera’s version in the SimpliSafe® app:

  1. Tap the Cameras tab
  2. Tap the ⚙ Gear Icon (top right)
  3. Select your Outdoor Camera
  4. Scroll down to the bottom of the settings page

If your camera is showing the symptoms above and is ALREADY on firmware 1.18

You may still need to perform a reset to restore functionality:

  1. Remove the Camera from your system in the SimpliSafe® app:
  1. Tap the Cameras tab
  2. Tap the ⚙ Gear Icon (top right)
  3. Select your Outdoor Camera
  4. Scroll to the bottom and select X Remove Camera

  1. Reset the Camera itself:
  1. Press and hold the Pairing Button on the back of the camera
  2. Continue holding until the camera chimes (about 30 seconds)

You may see the LED indicator blinking white, indicating that it’s ready to set up.

  1. Return to the SimpliSafe® app to reinstall the camera:
  1. Tap the three-bar ☰ Menu icon on the top left
  2. Select Add Device or Camera
  3. Tap Let’s Go
  4. Scroll down and select Wireless Outdoor Cam
  5. Follow the instructions on the SimpliSafe® app for setup

If your camera is showing the symptoms above and is NOT on firmware 1.18

We will need to perform further troubleshooting, including possibly replacing your camera. Please contact our Support team and we’ll take care of you.

@rackuhn4 Have you had a chance to go through the steps to factory reset your Outdoor Camera yet?

Yes. I have gone through the camera reset, the base station reset and even purchased another battery thinking that might be the problem.  All software is up to date. Nothing else to try.

The damn RESET button doesn’t work at all !

I recharged the battery and i could not connect back to the system.  I removed the camera from the system, then tried to reconnect, but the light kept flashing blue.

@tlevitt If your camera was updated to firmware 1.18 before entering this state, performing a hard reset on the camera will help recover it. You can reset the camera by taking the following steps:

  1. On the SimpliSafe app, navigate to My System > Camera Settings > [Your Camera]
  2. Scroll to the bottom and select "Remove Camera"
  3. On your camera, look for the pairing button on the back of the device. Press and hold the button for 30 seconds.
  4. When you release, the camera should reboot, and you'll be able to set it up again through the SimpliSafe app.

If resetting the camera doesn't help, the next step would be to contact our Support team for further troubleshooting.

I dumped SimpliSafe months ago.  Now I just need to figure out how to NOT keep getting notifications every time someone comments on this never ending and never to be resolved problem thread...

SimpliSafe should have immediately refunded everyone's money or sent out replacement cameras WITHOUT wasting everyone's time on a problem they clearly know isn't fixable.  Reckon it will take a class action law suit to get any sort of remedy.

@sunnyfallsrb If the camera was on firmware 1.18 before entering this state, the camera can be retrieved by resetting it. You can also turn off notifications on posts you follow by taking these steps:

  1. Click on your Community avatar in the top right corner
  2. Click "Profile Settings"
  3. Select "Notifications & Preferences"
  4. You can then toggle email and platform notifications off
  5. Click "Save Notification Preferences" on the bottom of the screen to save your settings

I am having the same issue.  I tried the reboot steps and my camera is still blinking blue.  I have t taken the battery out, reseated it numerous times and still no success.

@tlmcnamara Since a reset didn't help get your camera back online, I would recommend contacting our Support team. They'll be able to take a look into your system, help with additional troubleshooting, and replace your camera if needed.

Same problem as everyone else. One camera would not launch live view and was showing "offline." Solar recharged battery at 100%. I tried the 30 second hard reset then deleting the camera and trying to re-install but now the camera will not re-install and I just get a flashing blue light. Called Customer Service and they are sending a replacement camera....hopefully the other camera I have keeps working!

@iphunt22 Firmare 1.18 should resolve the issue for all cameras, assuming they can still be reset. We suggest attempting the procedure in the top post.

If that doesn't work, our Support team can make sure to get you replacement units.

This may be a stupid question but how can my camera to install the firmware update if I cannot get it on line.

@jbusche not a stupid question at all! And the answer is, it can't. If your camera as already updated to a more recent version, it might be able to reset so that it can get back online.

But if that doesn't help, the next step is a replacement. Our Support team can help with that.

Here’s how I fixed it. Hold the button until it chimes. Release — then immediately press and hold it, don’t release. It’ll stay black — until it comes on flashing white. Go through pairing — I had to retry WiFi twice. This got me through the constant rebooting to it stuck in a flashing blue light. Cheers.

@neil88e4dd If your camera will not reset by following the steps above, we will need to perform some additional troubleshooting, and potentially replace that camera. If you reach out to our Support team, they can help you with that.
